I just put the 3.09 Diff in my car and was unable to buy a new Driveshaft due to job termination. So I kept the stock driveshaft for now.

My theory is with the 3.09 gears everything in front of the Diff will have less stress on it and everything downstream will have more stress on it. And since the axles are seemingly a little more reliable than the DS, I should be golden (since I am otherwise STOCK).

Also I am looking for any info or theories on the Stock DS. The factory tag/PN had an AF at the end. So this was an F revision. Does that mean that it is the 5th revision? I am thinking Chrysler was upgrading this DS as time went on. Better materials or different/better vendor etc. What do you guys think? Anybody with a 16 break a DS yet?

Sorry about the job... the driveshaft is still a weak link...

If you are on stock tires, your DS will be fine. If on DR's, forget it.

27 passes so far ALL on drag radials and most of them hooked. Most of them with the 2.62 ratio. Best 60 foot with the 2.62 ratio has been 1.58 (remember my motor is stock). Like I said, I am thinking Chrysler has upgraded the DS as time went on. That would be the smart thing to do.

I'll let you know if it breaks. I doubt it will break, if it has not already.

There was another thread that documented that the DS p/n had changed from the 15's and that the previous p/n had been obsoleted...

Don't worry.....because I quit. Had a new Boss that was the ultimate micro manager and was changing EVERYTHING and putting us through HELL. Well, not me anyways. The funny thing is, when he gets all done they will be right back where they started money wise with a bunch of pissed off Employees. Seems pointless to me.

I paid cash for the cat 2 months ago and I am going to try and keep her for now. Wish me luck.

P/Ns change all the time... Same thing with the 3.09 differential that some of us are swapping to... P/N has changed at least 3 times since the fall...

I am of the same thinking about the drive shaft stress being reduced when using the 3.09's compared to the 2.62's.

Part number change being an upgrade, no idea but we can hope :)

^^^this is an understatement but correct...Chrysler seems to change part numbers before the part is even made,,,I have never seen an upgraded part come from PN changes except maybe 3-4 times over the last 10 yrars..

But no one can confirm they did change the actual part. I am thinking no and for me anyway because I am getting ready to get my Nitto DR's mounted on something a drive shaft will be a purchase in the very near future.
