    I took delivery of my 2016 Challenger Hellcat in Plum Crazy / Satin Hood / Brass Monkey / Sunroof / Leather yesterday and I wanted to share my buying experience and walk you through the good and the bad experiences buying my Hellcat from out of state.

    I know a lot of people are nervous buying out of state but I purchased my car without meeting my salesperson and seeing the car in person. This was my experience..... PICTURES BELOW

    KUDOS to ARMORY GARAGE in Albany, NY for making my experience great! If you want to skip below and buy a Hellcat at MSRP, call my salesman, Rick at (518) 542-9856

    == BACK STORY ==
    This is my first American car that I have purchased in a LONG time. I tend to buy German sportscars and SUVs. I purchased a 2015 Porsche GT3 and afterwards realized that it was too impractical to drive on a daily basis so I was on the hunt for a daily driver.

    I will be very blunt, the silly show Street Outlaws had a profound effect on me. I really wanted an American muscle car. My first thought was to buy a 1987 Grand National and rebuild or buy a pristine 1987 GNX. After much thought as a daily driver I ruled out the Grand Nationals as the lack of convenience, safety and reliability for a 1980's car was not what I was looking for.

    My friends were pushing me towards a Tesla P90D but I wanted American muscle. I didn't want a sportscar like a Z06 or a Z28 or a GT500 as I already had a sportscar in the GT3. I wanted the Challenger Hellcat.....I love this thing. I have had a love of Purple cars for the longest time and then Plum Crazy came out. Decision made.

    == BUYING EXPERIENCE ==

    I started my research in November 2015. I did the Autotrader route and monitored cars for price and availability. And once I got serious in February, I started calling out to the dealers and had narrowed down the field to about 4 cars (my criteria: Plum Crazy, 8 sp AT and sunroof).

    Because Plum Crazy is a limited edition color, I immediately saw prices well above MSRP. I am not a believer in paying above MSRP but had to settle in to paying above MSRP for Plum Crazy. The conversation quickly went from "Let's pick the ideal car at the best price" to "crap, better buy any Plum Crazy before they are gone".

    My first choice was to purchase where I am working, in California but I am guessing due to the relative number of wealthy people here, dealers were either sold out of Plum Crazy or in the case of 2 dealers that had a Plum Crazy, they were asking for $10K and $15K over MSRP. A big no go for me.

    I then started looking out of state and there was one car that was in stock, unsold in Michigan and by the time I made the decision to buy that car, it was sold, at MSRP. In my general experience, if a Plum Crazy Hellcat has pictures on a dealer's site, it is either sold or they are asking way above MSRP.

    I then focused on dealers who had cars incoming. These are the dealers that were in Autotrader but had no pictures. I found exactly 2 cars. One in Oklahoma and one with Armory Garage in Albany, NY. My first research was shipping cost. It was much cheaper to ship from Oklahoma to California than it was from New York. And the car in Oklahoma was less expensive because it didn't have the Black Satin hood (which isn't important to me). So I wanted the Oklahoma car.

    I contacted the internet sales manager in Oklahoma and he offered me by email (claiming he spoke to his GM) $2K over MSRP. Given the features and shipping cost, I was willing to pay $2K over MSRP. I was negotiating to see if I can pay cheaper, include the license fees, include shipping etc. At the end of it, I said that I would buy the car. BUT then I get a call from some other random manager from this Oklahoma dealership and now they want $8K over MSRP!!!! At some point they thought they can attract that price because Plum Crazy was rare. I laugh and said no. It will be a COLD DAY IN HELL before I do business with unscrupulous dealers. Unbelievable.

    At this point, I was thinking that I would have to give up the Plum Crazy dream. But then I called the dealer in Albany, Armory Garage. We went through the car and then I asked.... How much are you asking over MSRP. My salesman, Rick Napolitano, laughed and said that the dealership is family owned and 3 generations old and the owner doesn't believe in charging over MSRP. I said that I would think about it and then I did research on the dealership and found they were legit. I called back Rick the next day and said that I would purchase it.

    == DETAILS DETAILS ==
    I had to leave a $2500 deposit by credit card with authorization forms. I kept worrying that the dealer would sell it from underneath me to a higher bidder but Rick kept reinforcing that the car was mine. I learned that they had a meeting with the GM / Owner on me to ensure that I wasn't reselling it (I am plating it in AZ where my permanent residence is but having the car shipped to where I work in California).

    They insisted that they title the car for me, apparently Dodge is very concerned over people grey marketing / arbitraging the cars that can be bought at MSRP. No problem. Less work for me. They fedex the paperwork and I returned it with the cashier's check.

    This was the first time that I purchased something this expensive without meeting the person and seeing the product. I had my friends in the Albany area confirm the dealership existed and the car existed. And the dealership treated my friends very well.

    Car was paid for. Rick Napolitano answered my questions quickly and thoroughly. Everything was a great experience dealing with Rick and his dealership. If you want to buy a Hellcat at MSRP, call Rick at (518) 542-9856 or email him at rnapolitano@armoryauto.com. Why deal with terrible dealers when there are great ones out there like Armory?

    == SHIPPING ==
    I used a bidding service called uShip to get bids on shipping my Hellcat in an enclosed trailer. They all came in at $2000 with a $100 fee. I decided to call one of the bidders directly and got them to agree to $1750. They picked up my car on Tuesday and it was delivered to me 6 days later..... Great experience.

    ==HAPPY ENDINGS==

    I emailed the Oklahoma dealer back telling about the Plum Crazy car that I bought at MSRP and sent them pictures of the beast. No reply. 20160301_210017000_iOS.jpg 20160301_210026000_iOS.jpg 20160307_151124615_iOS.jpg 20160307_151205530_iOS.jpg 20160307_183645070_iOS.jpg

    You will love driving your car. Picked up my PCP A8 Challenger on Black Friday. Paid MSRP at local dealer. Great weather here in Ohio this afternoon so took her out for a drive to Lowes. Just so you know a medicine cabinet, range hood, and bath wall cabinet will fit in a Hellcat..and still room for a co-pilot

    Well done. I bought mine Saturday, it's a 6m without the black hood. $500 under sticker but this is the second cat I've bought from this local dealer.

    Congrats T-Bone, love hearing stories like this. I had to call over 70 dealers before being able to order mine with PCP, A8, Sepia, Sun Roof and stripes. I paid $3k over but was happy to do so. A day before my first order came in my dealer let me reorder another one with the stripes. I got lucky that he had another allocation. Enjoy it, it's an awesome car and a lot of fun to drive.
