It's probably been hit on before but has anyone else seen a 3 quart consumption of oil on first oil change?

i say what? 3 quarts low at time of change? mine was 2/3 qt low at 600miles and added a little more at 1200. it was fine at the change at 1700. I suspect it was a bit low from the factory. a 6 qt fill with new filter only puts it between the marks, not "full"

I am sure you have checked for leaks. If there are none and you haven't been noticing any burning oil/smoke exhaust, then I would guess that it wash't filled at the factory. How many miles and what were your dealers thoughts.?

I drove it from Denver to wyo. did oil change at 500 miles. Shame on me for not checking it at the dealer. No leaks, no smoke very glad I decided to change at 500 miles.

I have 1300 miles. Not one drop of oil has been visibly burned, and I just wait till it is fully warmed up (oil in normal) before I take it over 2,000 rpms. YMMV.

3 quarts in 500 miles would have me very concerned. I would definitely take it to the dealer, document the situation and have them do the change. I suspect a problem. That is excessive consumption no matter how you look at it.

Too bad you didn't check it because you have no starting point. Checking the oil at delivery is important...

I'd still document with a dealer and have them change and then check oil twice a week. See if you have an issue.
