depends on what you want to do with the Cat.....if you want to turn the best et on a road course...6 speed,...drag race..street race...race from a roll 8 speed auto....the Cat is a straight line warrior in my view....mine is going to be 9 second straight liner.

See my post in hellcatdotclubs link above. Manual all the way! May not be quite as fast but having full control of all that power is AWESOME!:D

I am bummed that we haven't got anyone from Washington to join yet. Probably rains too much for serious racers! When I get my baby, I am going to try to video some of my excursions, I just need to make sure I get a new alias so my insurance doesn't go through the roof!!o_O

8-speed auto with the paddle shifters this time for me.
I operate a lot of heavy equipment at work (mostly manual 10-speeds), and the manual transmission gets a little "old" in traffic after awhile.
Don't get me wrong, I love the 6-speed I've had in my '09 SRT (with the Hurst Competition-plus under the stock grip), but I'm getting older and after a long day, it "ain't so much fun any more". o_O

I don't blame you. If I had a longer commute I would have went for the automatic. Since I am 3 miles from my office and I totally screw around with people between here and there, it made sense for me to get the manual!!o_O

What you need to do is drive a 4 speed from the late 60's with the wonderful old style clutch, 20 miles driving 440+6 4 speed and driving anything modern, and it's like pushing your foot through butter, (Ford GT, Z06 & Mustang GT.) I'm 56 but maybe the 4 miles a day walking helps my legs as does driving the old iron! By the way, the 440 has manual steering, Now that's a work out!

By the by, not trying to brag. I guess the choice is up to the driver. I just can't imagine driving a muscle car or exotic with anything other than a stick.

I am with you Thomas! I learned to drive a 3 speed tractor! Now that was a beast to shift! I really feel like this mean muscle machine screams manual tranny but I could see if you had to commute any distance. I just plan on cracking some heads between point A and B (3 miles) and shifting while I am doing it just adds to the entertainment!;)

Yea, my 1st car was a '69 Dodge RT 440 4speed. Didn't even know how to drive a stick when I bought it, I was 17. 2 of my 3 boys that drive have sticks for their 1st cars, and they tell me they wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm as much a "purist" as you two gents. I cut my teeth on 60's muscle cars (a few had power steering), learned to drive standard on a 1972 Ford F150 Extended Cab (with power "nothing"), and my first truck at work was a 1978 Walters Snowfighter (4WD heavy dump - pushing in the clutch takes both feet and raises a normal-sized man's posterior up off of the drivers seat). My '09 Challenger is a 6-speed T6060 - because I think a muscle car should have a manual transmission (and no sunroof). But I'm 54, have a physical (and dangerous) job and by the end of the work day (which is often 13 hours), I've had enough of shifting anything.
That said, I'm sure I'll miss having a standard, but not in traffic, behind school buses, after a long day at work. I'll still have paddle shifters on those days I'm feeling rested and "sporty"! LOL! :D
