I love how the shifter has a flat top. It's a great arm rest and works well to lean my wrist on when changing the volume. I would think the button on the side would have to be pushed in for the shifter to move but tonight my arm moved it into neutral while in drive. It appears the shifter can move into neutral just by pushing the shifter forward. Doesn't seem right. Opinions?

That's correct but you will need your foot on the brake and push button to get back into drive.

AFAIK, all shift gates (all manufactures) work this way. Designed for easy drive train disconnect during emergency braking.

Completely normal in all makes and models.

I wish the shifter was more difficult to move in and out of manual mode though.
I always drive in manual mode, but during "spirited" maneuvers, it's easy to go back to D unintentionally

In agreement with all of the posts here.
How many of us can remember rolling out parents '80's car down the driveway or out of the garage. I know I did it and my father was pissed

Try the volume control button on the back of the steering wheel, right side. It will not effect gear shift at all.
