Unless you first check to make sure it is installed correctly. This post is so you can be sure if you need to use it on the road, that the person doing the tow won't wreck our transmission or worse.

While putting a stripe on my wheels I had my Charger up on my lift. Raised the front tires and installed the stripes without any troubles.

When you get to the rear tires and have them up on stands, It is not like the older days when you can just take the trans and put it in neutral to rotate the tires to work on them.
On the A8's at least, you can't start up the car, then push the button to turn it off while in Neutral. Can't move the shift lever anywhere without having your foot on the brake and the engine running.
So what is a person to do if you want to do something on the car.

You have this Manual Park Release lever. As stated on pages 184 and 185 in the charger manual which tells you how to disengage the transmission so you can rotate the tires.

Yes this is for disabled cars, dead battery, or towing. But I could not safely let the car supported on stands and the engine running with the trans in neutral. Not one bit.

so I took off the cover and pulled up on the lanyard as specified. the lever would not lock into position.
I had to insert a screwdriver to hold up the lever so I could get the job done on the stripes.

I look further into this not holding up, I take pictures of the assembly and start searching on line for something to help here.
I find that the "locking Tab" is being held down by the rear assembly bolt to the floor of the car. Preventing it from working properly.

What it is supposed to look like, I found in an online Video.

You can skip if you want to, to the 5 minute mark. clearly showing how it is supposed to work.

In my case at least, I now have an appointment at the dealer for them to fix this (under warranty I assume)
    next Friday.

If I did not try this out, maybe some (?) one who needed to tow my car would not have the time to be sure it worked properly. Probably would have been alone and in a hurry.

Glad I caught it. So when you have time, take up the DB rubber cover and pull up the plastic cover.
Look down towards the cup holders to make sure the locking tab is not held down by the bolt.
Probably the same on Challengers as well.

    Matt

At first we found trying to rotate the tires, it sounded like a gear being out of sync with another one. did not want to force the issue when I was doing the striping. So I put a screw driver down and held up the lever against the shifter.

Once we were done I was able to put the lever down and then I started to Google stuff to see what I could find.
this guy from Georgia posted a lot of Mopar videos and works at a dealer. Finding his video was great.
And I think he did a great job of explaining the operation.

Now I should find the directions on how to disassemble the console. I think this site has info on it where one person modded his cup holders of all things. He got them to cool and heat using holders from a Chrysler 300 or ???

Since I have the 5yr, warranty on the 2015. I don't want to do this myself. I will have the dealer do it so it is documented that I had that problem corrected by them.

Had my Cat at the dealers today and explained to them what i meant was wrong.
They looked it over and ordered another assembly.
While there they did an update to my HK stereo. Sounds better now too.
When the parts come in, we will return for them to replace it.
The small retainer clip broke when they released the bolt on that was on it.
It was pop riveted to the assembly
I love a small Dealer, when they brought my Cat into the shop area the walls were echoing from the exhaust and brought sales people into the shop to see what was making that noise.

    Just my cat singing !!!
