After the Bondurant SRT experience I don't see weight as an issue.

I see lots of complaints about the weight of the Challenger on this site. While there is no argument that losing some weight from the car would decrease our 0-60 times I did the SRT experience at Bondurant last Sat and my thought processes went roughly as follows.

Viper lead follow exercise- As I step out of the car I think "dam I should have bought a Viper".

Hot laps in a Hellcat- As I get out of the car I think " Forget the Viper I bought the right car I just need some lessons in how to drive it"

In summary the Hellcat has way more handling performance than can ever be safely used on the street, and before I ever spend a penny on reducing the weight of the car I will spend money getting myself up to speed.

    Dodge got it right

Viper - A track car you can drive on the street

Hellcat- A street car you can drive on the track

And yes my hot laps as a pax were a major eye opener.
Bondurant SRT was a great experience and I learnt sonething
I flew from DFW on Spirit for $53 outbound $43 return and hotel was 50 a night

    Well worth it.

Nice write up. I have to make sure I take advantage of the SRT experience.

On it's own, and by yourself... the weight isn't an issue. We have 707hp to overcome that issue.

On a track with similarly powered cars with much lighter weight, or slightly less power... with much lighter weight, you will see a staggering difference.

If you don't, you probably need more driving lessons.

It's good to know weight isn't an issue. Now I don't have to start that diet.

Unless you drive lighter cars on the track you prob wont ever feel like its too heavy. Its a steeper hill to climb trying to get urself up to speed in a heavier vehicle - working on urself would be easier in a lighter, better track oriented car. Fun nevertheless though. Total blast regardless of weight.

There will always be a Lighter, Faster, Better Handling, Bigger, Smaller, ....Sure a smaller lighter car on the track will generate faster times, but who gets more thumbs up while going through the drive through window :)

Been riding bikes for 40 yrs, Its always the driver or rider that makes the most difference. My crotch rocket always impress me on power to wt . But its really nice to zip around in this car with AC and radio cush seating. Still impressed with the Hellcat everyday.

The sales guy at Bondurant doesn't answer his phone, yet insists that you call him rather than email him to reserve a spot. Seems like a fun time, but kind of turned off by the whole process.

Our power is enough to actually generate faster lap times than some lighter cars on certain track configurations (i.e. If long straights are included, our advantage gets good).
