I am about to install my Aluminum DS, it came with a large wad of black grease at the front end.
Can you guys tell me where that grease should and should not be?
How about the torque specs for the bolts?
It would be nice if these guys sent some info along with the DS, I know this isn't brain surgery, but a few details would be a good thing.
    THANKS!!!

You also need to run a bead of silicone around the coupling ( and yes, DSS told me this )

There should be a white sticker on the shaft with the torque specs
57 ft lbs for the smaller 10mm bolts
70 ft lbs for the 4 large u-joint bolts
Remove the exhaust remove the stock shaft grease end goes forward to trans put the rear spacer on torq the the 4 large u-joint bolts install exhaust done :D

    LOL,

Yes, it takes 30 minutes, NOT. Number 1 the exhaust is very heavy you need at least two people to remove. Two, you must release the transmission which is a pull cord under the cut holder in the car (A8). The release may not lock up, if does not lock up, screw with it to see it locks up or have some keep pulling on it while you rotate the drive shaft. It will not work in neutral, do not even try, Third, the coupling that mounts to the transmission is in close the shaft tube, I could find a hex adapter to torque wrench that fit, had to buy a hex head and grind it down so that I could torque the bolts, Fourth, the diameter of the aluminum shaft is much greater than stock, the passenger side reasonator is in close proximity to the shaft, you need to play with the exhaust install to achieve maximum clearance from the shaft. Other than those items, it is a 15 minute job :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

We just pulled down on the shift linkage from below to rotate the DS and I only took off the rear exhaust hangers and supported the weight with a bungee cord. Gave us plenty of room to remove and install the DS(stock). Still waiting on parts for new AL DS. ;)

I just spoke to a guy at the DSS, he says the newer DS comes with a seal (O ring I'm guessing) on the front. This seal is there to make sure the grease stays in that area of the DS.
On older units like mine, he said it is important to use RTV to seal the front face of the coupler. They ask that you clean the two surfaces that will mate, then apply RTV to that surface to act as a seal to hold the grease in. He said that failure to do so in the main reason for DS problems.
It sure seems like there should be instructions that come with the product if this is important!!!
I asked if they have anything in writing that spells this out......He said....NO!

I have a copy of the factory driveshaft installation/removal, but it does not apply to the DSS shaft, even the bolt torques are different
