Amerigasm: Shelby Releases 50 Signature Edition Super Snakes
    [IMG]

This one time in Las Vegas, an off-duty cop goaded us into a drag race with his personal 700-hp Shelby Mustang. It sounds cool, right? The only problem was that we arrived brandishing a six-cylinder Jaguar F-type, and we were instant toast. If we had had Shelby’s 850-hp Super Snake, maybe we could have put the officer in his place. Maybe that story is illegal. Regardless, Shelby’s new ultra-limited-production Signature Edition Super Snake is 100-percent DOT-certified, and can lay the smackdown on whoever in rare style.

For the Signature Edition, Shelby more or less bundles together the most popular upgrades it offers for the outgoing Ford Mustang GT500 and slaps on special “Signature Edition” interior and exterior flourishes. Basically, the Signature model gets the same mental powertrain kit Shelby has offered since 2007, and as such, it’s available for all 2007-2014 GT500 coupe and convertible models (sans the SE gear, of course). It boosts the stock GT500’s output from 662 horsepower to a solid 850 (on 2013 and 2014 models) and also brings upgrades to the brakes and suspension. (One word of caution: If Shelby tries to up-sell the 1000-hp package, understand it actually is illegal off the track and only accepts racing gas. Not that you couldn’t get creative with your local DMV, but just sayin’.)

In addition to the requisite “Signature Edition” badging on the forged wheels, body, floor mats, interior and engine, the final Super Snakes pack an upgraded radiator, heat exchanger, new aluminum cooling tanks, and the rear brakes get beefier. Plus, Shelby will paint the racing stripes in any color, tack on a Carroll Shelby–signed airbag cover, and offer a one-day track lesson to better prepare owners to annihilate Hellcats.

The entire package costs $44,995, not including the donor GT500, and just 50 will be offered. No orders will be accepted after January 31, but if you miss out, you could always wait until the 2016 Ford GT500 arrives and wait a little bit longer while Shelby peels apart all the fancy new hardware and figures out how to juice it, too. Whichever path you choose, may we recommend that you don’t taunt the police without prior approval?
