Just got my Hellcat two months ago. Track opens up in two weeks. I don't want to break a drive shaft first time out. Can you make the stock drive shaft live with DR's? 2nd gear starts with rolling into it maybe? Read about some breaking the DS and switching to one piece and many just switching right away. I want to know if there those out there making the stock DS work with DR's.

The best thing for you to do is look under your car at the driveshaft tunnel and look for all the crap that will get torn up when it does fail wether it be the 1st launch or the 40th. The shafts have a history of failing When you increase traction end of story.

If your gonna baby it off of the starting line why would you need drag radials.
My 2nd trip down the track I ran 11.6 with stock tires launching at 1200 and rolling to the floor just after the x-mas tree.

Ran my 10.8 on stock DS. If I was going to go to the track a lot I would upgrade.

Good question and I too have thought about the same thing.

The car is marketed, advertised, and even NHRA certified for sale by Dodge in stock condition for running a 10.8 with DR's. The way I see it the drive shaft is the weakest link in the drive line and if conditions (track surface, launch, ect) are just right the shaft has a good chance it'll twist.

Dodge/SRT twisted shafts in testing, it's not if but when, if it were me and I couldn't afford the aluminum shaft I would leave the stock OEM tires on until I could do the up grade.

you need drag radials to grip or you will slide all over the place regardless of how you launch, i can personally vouch for this.

I did mid muffler delete few days ago. During that modification (one of my new friend has been racing for last 20+ years - did professionally too), He told me that you better remove this DS before any damage is done underneath esp I was talking about Nitto 555R. My nitto going in as I'm typing and going to place the order with HHP or DSS by end of the day.

    update:

Does anyone know if DSS has any forum member discount?

Spend the money on a drive shaft before drag radials

I wonder what the reason was to use these drive shafts then?? Cost? Such an awesome engine, such an awesome transmission (mine and yours 8HP90), awesome diff, and then use such a poor drive shaft? Could it have really been so much more to add a 1000HP rated drive shaft?

I guess it goes back to one of those mysteries like the un-keyed pulley

I think the driveshaft was meant to be the fail safe. Cheaper/easier to replace a driveshaft than it is a rear end or transmission/engine.
