No worries as long as they were looking at your tail lights. Well finish the story, did the new Cat do well?

Change your oil at 500 miles, keep checking its level during break in.

you cant hurt it...internally engines are good for wide open throttle right out of the gate--so called break in periods are simply to be watchful for things like loose bolts, minor leaks and misc external issues. The engine internally is either good or bad from the first crank, period..

Ran mine hard here and there.

I just follow my rules the same as my big diesels. Wait until it's warm to load her heavy. Feel free to run her hard once warm, but also let her cool down after a good run. Don't idle too long. If the car is telling you she doesn't like something, don't do that something. My car doesn't like being real short shifted into 3rd under heavy power.

1,850 miles as of today. Back tires showing some wear, no blow by, no funny noises.

Over 5k miles on my hellcat, I followed the magic break-in kinda. I took it over 100mph a few times before 500 miles. Just made sure it was warmed up properly. The engines are dyno'd independently and the break-in is more for the drivetrain rather then the engine.

I drove mine in Valet mode the first few hundred miles. Then Eco mode for a few more hundred. After 500 I think I just gave up. LOL.

Agree with most of what you said...but I'm curious:
How much time would "too long of idle" be?
    How are measuring blow by?

I left the dealer lot sideways and hit the I-10 full throttle up to 145 mph. Then ran about 10 1/8 mile hits first day.

While breaking in, I consider over half hour idle to be bad.

    I manually shift my A8.
You can be at wot at 3,000rpm in 2nd and shift to 3rd and it will shift. Doesn't like it but it will.
