    Hi,

I know this is a nit picky thing, but I am not crazy about the plastics feel of the bottom of the steering wheel and prefer to have the entire wheel wrapped in leather.

I am wondering if anyone has done this and could point me to a vendor who can do the work?

    Thanks

Haven't thought about that but I get it. Make it your own and run with it. I haven't seen any vendors or this mentioned before.

Don't forget that the plastic parts have to come apart (screws in back) so the airbag, steering wheel buttons, heater, and horn can be serviced. Try not to wrap the plastic in such a way that it can't be easily taken apart by a tech at the dealer if you ever have to repair something. As for a vendor to do the work, I did a google search for auto customizer in new jersey and found a few hits right a way. Also you can check out a few car shows in the area and ask owners of custom hot rods who did their work. Might give you a good starting point. Aren't you supposed to keep your hands at the 10 and 2 o'clock positions while driving? Post pictures of your wheel if you get any work done.

They are now teaching 8 and 4 due to airbag deployments!

Looks like I am behind the times (pun intended). Thanks for the update.

I'm wondering if this would this be a good idea for a Heated Steering Wheel?
Our oem cover is thick like it's padded.

But Hey with 707 HP How about feeling like a race car driver and wear race gloves :p:D
You will never have to feel that plastic again ;)

9 and 3 actually. My son just finished his driver's training to get his license. 8 and 4 wouldn't give you much control over the vehicle.

8 and 4 is what my daughter reported to me from her driver's training last year. Maybe they have changed again.

Thanks for the feedback, was just curious. I find when I turn the car I feel my hands move to the plastic part of the wheel. Certainly not a big deal, maybe I'll just wrap the bottom section myself and see how it comes out, can't be too hard.

It depends on daylight savings time, your time zone and who give a Damn. Just keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel. Also watch out for low curbs at bank drive ins they eat your rims.

After much research on the steering wheel, hand position, this is what I came up with. It's not definitive, but it points in the right direction.
