Apple set to ship electric car by 2019: WSJ

Between Apple, Google and Tesla, we aren't far away from self-driving / electric vehicles becoming the standard. The days of a 707HP production car are going to be numbered. Future generations may not ever know what it is like to drive a car less alone a muscle car. At least my kids can fight over mine when I die.

Don't expect Apple to actually build a car. Look for some type of joint venture with an established manufacturer. My bet is, it will be with BMW.

I was thinking more like Hyundia, Kia or Toyota....but I wonder IF these self-driving electric cars ever catch on, will there be roads to even drive on for the regular cars? Seems I've heard that there's serious thought about building self driving semi trucks....scary...

The reason that I don't think that the joint venture partner will be any of the above is the image that Apple wishes to project. All are good car makers, but they are not upscale enough for this project. In the joint venture, Apple, I suspect, will do the human interface and controls, then the car maker will do most of everything else. Don't expect cheap, expect high quality.

in 30 years your car may not be allowed on the road except for parades...gas stations may not exist...

your government may assign you your car along with your groceries and house.......its the only way to get 200 mpg and keep you safe and healthy too

self driving cars will be here for the new generation who wants to spend their time on facebook, not steering a car to get somewhere

I blew a Tesla into the weeds last week--it was satisfying.. Every time I see a ZERO EMMISIONS Tesla plate, it makes my stomach turn--there is no such thing as ZERO emissions--an impossibility and false advertising..
Here in the Bay Area, we have Tesla's everywhere and they ALL drive like smart @$$'s, as they make it a political statement to own one--I go out of my way to pass them and I especially enjoy knocking off the sport models. When they purposely block the diamond lane, I make it a point to work up to a passing point and when I go by, I leave enough space for a slice of paper--then I slow down and make them stare at the azz end of my car, regardless of my choice in a driver that day.
My all time favorite game was playing the same scenario out in the early days of the Prius, with my 427 SC Cobra.

This Sunday I think I'll drive the HE77KAT down Shattuck in Berkeley and rattle the street vendors!

    Good day,

    GO TRUMP

That would be a great deal for Tesla, I am not convinced that it will do much for Apple. Look at Apple's structure, they are a engineering and sales company. They don't own much in the way of manufacturing assets. To purchase a car company would change their entire way of operating their business. I think that I will stick with my original thought.

Tesla will join forces with Toyota long before Apple. They are already sharing technology between the two companies.

won't prevent an outside buyer--many auto companies cross share now both technology and parts--door is wide open for any owner.
