I was at local dealer yesterday looking at a sub lime green R/T making sure thats the color I'm going to order for my Hellcat, I noticed the front and back bumper color did not match. Anyone else notice this?

Whaaaaa? Do you think it is because the body is metal and the bumpers are plastic so the sheen is different with same paint? That is very bizarre, I hope that isn't the case and it was just lighting.o_O

I'll get some photos Friday, I'm thinking the bumpers were painted separate from the cars and then put on. Color variance may different from one batch to the next batch of paint. Plastic should not have anything to do with it, coming from my father inlaw who has painted for 30 years. My 8 year old daughter even noticed it.

definitely not the lighting, you could see it with the sun shining on it and on the shaded side. Went back with the wife she picked it right out, maybe on the Hellcat it's different. I'm hoping someone with the sub lime green Hellcat can verify if theirs is this way, before I order mine.

i would say it was most likely the lighting and shadows that caused you to see that.

Yes - I have seen this on many of the Challengers espically the reds. Just a small tint difference and you have to look to see it. I usually see it first on the fronts when the cars are outside.

Yes, fascias are painted separately, often at a completely different plant than the main body (shell). Normally fascias, fenders, hoods, deck lids, all the removable body panels/fenders are painted in one location, bodies (everything that can't be unbolted) are painted at a different location. I wrote some software for General Motors several years ago. The plant where I wrote it painted ONLY fascias. This program talked to the paint robots, managed the paint recipes and kept track of how much paint stuck to the part, how much fell through the floor grate and how much went out the stack as a VOC emission. It was the first EPA certified paint database in the US. And no the batches don't differentiate. Those paint recipes are closely guarded secrets and highly managed/monitored. Manufacturers could paint on opposite sides of the planet and still have the paint match perfectly today with current technology. They can match not only the recipe but the humidity, temperature, etc. in the paint booth.

My guess would be lighting for what you saw. And I have noticed that some plastic fascias do have a slightly different tint than the metal pieces. I suppose it's possible that the plastics could have a black or yellow basecoat (whatever they're made out of) and the sheetmetal could have a different shade of basecoat? Surely they don't have a quality control issue like that?

Honestly if they want these non-black/grey/dark colors (red, sublime, white, etc.) to pop, I'd start with everything having a white basecoat.
