I tried to disable traction control tonight but could not.
does it have to be in a specific mode to disable it?

Just hold the traction control button for 5 secs. Works for me. Try it first in track, then sport, then street.

I was putting the car in Park and then holding the button for 5 seconds. maybe that's the problem. I'll try leaving it in first gear when I hold the button.
its been awhile since I disabled it, the time I did disable it..... it was a pretty wild experience.

If your just doing a burnout but it in Sport mode, its kind of what that mode is good for. Track has MORE interference traction control wise as it is designed for track/road course use

I was trying to do burn outs, I would get a little tire spin, then it would hook up once it shifted to second gear.
BUT....I was holding the button for 5 seconds while in park.

This is making me crazy. I disabled it about a month ago, it was spooky, it roasted the tires ugly. I don't remember what exactly I did, but it was disabled big time. I put the hammer down, it banged through 3 gears super quick and I was sideways in the road. I can't get it to do it again.

Here's what I did tonight. I got the car plenty warm, then I pulled over to the side of the road, left the car in drive, held the button for 5 seconds, the chime chimed, the light comes on on the dash and I figure I'm ready to spin. It will spin a little in the first 2 gears, then the computer really takes over in 3rd. The car was controllable. The one time I did disable it a while back, it was uncontrollable.
I tried it in Track and Sport, no difference.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

try putting in neutral and holding the button, that works for me.

on edit: I meant park...but I see you've done that too. Did it beep and give you a message on the display?
