Can washing your car right after a cruise cause damage to the rotors? I am talking about cruising, normal driving, not racing. Then you get home and want to wash your car. Can cool water on hot rotors cause damage or warping? Not hot enough to cause steam, just "normal" hot.

    tks.

Rotors will not warp unless you have installed a catch can.....

And the catch can will add about 9hp to the rear wheels. Tends to make the rotors hot though...

It's not likely to cause warping of the rotors; the bigger concern is that the heat could cause the chemicals in your wheel cleaner (depending on its particular chemistry) to have an accelerated reaction, potentially etching the finish on your wheels and/or brake calipers.

Can't imagine how that could be a problem. No different than driving through a puddle with hot rotors.

Well, that makes sense but I just use water and a rag, no wheel cleaner. The rotors were my only concern. Thank you..

They'll warp in an instant. Then you have to wet them again to reverse-warp them. Notice it every time I drive in the rain.

Never want to wash your car when it's hot or in the full sun....ideally. The rotors aren't the concern for me, as they dissipate the heat fairly quickly anyway.

    The rotors will RUST !!
Then they will ruin the pads and make the brakes feel like its warped.
Ask me how I know !!!
    It happen to my HC.
    WTF !!
Took it to the dealer and they replaced the pads and turned the rotors to get the rust off.
This is a HC with 1100 miles that is stored in a climate controlled garage.

Guess that means that these Cats are to be driven, not stored!

Daily driver...rain, sleet, snow. 13,100 miles since last July and not a rotor problem in sight
