I don't mean to brag, but I have to say something about what a wonderful wife I have. First she encouraged me to buy a Challenger Hellcat when a new one came available locally at the price I wanted to pay with the equipment I wanted instead of the Charger SRT 392 which I had on order.

Then on Saturday and Sunday she and I made a project out of doing the Dawn (Liquid Dish Soap) wash (strips any previous wax or other contaminants), clay bar and Zaino treatments. I am blessed and I had to say something nice. She has a much better technique of applying the Zaino in thin coats. I am too heavy handed. So she applies and I buff.

First, I have to say that on my last 3 new vehicles that we have used the clay bar on I always pulled something out of the paint. The clay bars would show a dark brown to blackish discoloration indicating that they were doing their job. Not so with the Hellcat. I started on the roof as I always do and nothing showed up on the clay bar so I did the roof again. Still nothing and the roof felt as smooth as a mirror. Continuing on the hood and rear deck still nothing, then the quarter panels and the doors, still nothing.

Remarkably, the Challenger paint was clean as a hound's tooth not one bit of rail dust, dirt, grime or anything came off onto the clay bar. That is a first. Also, the paint on the Hellcat was free of any noticeable orange peel, thin spots, or other paint defects.

Over the course of the weekend we put on 5 coats of Zaino and followed that with the Z6 Gloss Enhancer and the finish really "pops" now. It almost looks wet.

I had a tough time finding angles that show off the shine, but here are a few shots:

Very nice. Hoping to get my go mango in May-June. I see you painted your shipping protectors also. Now go out and get dirty!

Thanks and yes, I figured if the splitter protectors stay unscathed for the first year I won't need them. By painting them black they are not nearly as obnoxious as yellow.

I am eagerly looking forward to seeing a mango in person. They look great in photos, I am thinking they will really pop in person.

Surprised you have no orange peel. Most new cars of any brand do. Most likely less noticeable on metal flake colors. My TorRed does have some.

Yep, me too, both my Z06 and Cobra Mustang had OP to some extent but the Hellcat is smooth as glass.

Interesting read. My Cat is one year old this month with 3700 miles so I decided to clay bar it. Nothing, nada, zilch on the clay bar. Thinking I was doing it wrong, I tried it on my 2012 Ram and the clay bar was black after doing just the hood. Very happy with the paint on my 2015 Redline Challenger.

Oh and my Mrs is pretty cool too - she leaves me alone and has never driven my Cat:D

Bad advice. There's absolutely zero reason to wait to apply a coating or sealant on a brand new car with factory paint. It's fully cured from the day you take delivery.

Looks lovely. I have caught my splitter a few times but it is always the centre so the guards would have been useless.
