Let my friend take the cat around the block (yes literally only around the block) anddd he grazed the curb parking it! It's a small mark but it's the first one so I'm hoping for some recourse. I already called local wheel shops and they are only interested in refinishing the entire wheel (included was Detroit Wheel and Tire, they don't do touch ups). The Dodge dealer doesn't have touch up paint for these wheels. I was told my best bet is to try Painter's Supply for color matching and go from there.

My plan of attack is to knock any uneven edges/valleys off with a quick coarse sand (maybe 100?) followed by fine wet sanding, probably starting at 1000 or 1200 > 1500 > 2000, followed by polish.. I don't know if Mother's will work well on these wheels? Finally a couple quick (carefully masked) sprays of the color matched paint and some clearcoat. I don't really know what else to do or if this is the right course of action. Maybe I'm being too crazy about this but I'm worried about the exposed aluminum more than anything. I'm sure you all will let me know :D IMG_20150415_162700.jpg IMG_20150415_162709.jpg IMG_20150415_162715.jpg

Aluminum does not rust. Either leave it alone or buy a new wheel. Anything you do to it will make the problem area larger with a slim chance of making it look brand new.

Ugh, you are a much nicer person than I am, because I would not have let him drive it at all. If I did somehow suddenly lose my mind and he did that to Dante ... I would have killed him. I hope you can get it smoothed and painted. I am really sorry that happened!

In hindsight yes I should not have let him drive it, I never would have pictured this being a potential outcome. Live and learn ;)

I was afraid of this :( Can anyone else weigh in on that?

Dodge dealer quoted $2650.. at that price I can live with it lol

Red would look nice with a black wheel but I don't know with bronze

I've had plenty of wheels with similar damage touched up & you'd be hard pressed to find the spots that were fixed (I had to search & I'm pretty anal retentive about these things). Many dealers have airbrush guys that come around to fix minor paint & wheel damage, just like the paint less dent guys. Keep calling around to the local dealers & paint shops - someone will have a contact that can do it.

It's an alum wheel, so it won't rust. No need to push the panic button ;)

Phew finally someone to calm my nerves :) I will definitely try, thanks Mike. To everyone voting to sacrifice the head of my (good) friend to the HC gods, I appreciate your support but he made an honest mistake and he is probably more depressed about it all than me! Sometimes accidents happen. This one was arguably fairly preventable, and he was the first and last person I will let drive the cat, but like I said live and learn... ;)

Ouch, sorry to hear, but what is learned is never let anybody drive your cars, especially your almost irreplaceable Hellcat.
