Not sure if this is the right forum, but, here goes. My original dealer is telling me that: once the car is ordered he cannot refund my deposit. He'll have to find somebody to buy it, taking my place. My brother said he read on another forum, that in Florida they have to give you your deposit back. He(my brother) isn't in a big hurry to try and find it. Might be because now I'm going to finally get a Cat - the 1 Kevin posted about. Does anybody know what the deal is? Thanks in advance.

I'm sure you can get your deposit back if you really pressed, might take a small claims court to do so if they are really stubborn. What status is your order in with the original dealer? If it's in BX then it's a simple mouse click to cancel it (I think anyway)

should be able to cancel your order and get a refund as long as your in VON status.. once you get a VIN they might require you to wait till veh is sold.

Read the back of whatever paperwork you signed. The refund policy should be printed there. Or call your state's consumer protection office.

Shasta's Dad - The dealer cannot legally keep your deposit or your brothers because they have not provided a legitimate product for the deposit you have placed. It's flat out against the law and it doesn't matter what state you're in. Dealers do this crap to lock people in and take advantage of people's ignorance. If the order has went from BX to D (VIN), then you should be in good shape. I would say then that you may have to wait until the car is sold to another customer, but again, they cannot keep your deposit towards anything you never received.

They can't legally hold it. Follow the advice above and it'll be back in your hands real quick. The car is not technically yours until you sign the paperwork, so they can not keep the deposit.

If you don't have a VIN, the dealer is not committed to that order. My dealer has someone back out and was able to cancel that order and move his next order up in the allotment. A lot depends on your contract with the dealer, but I think you should be able to contact SRT to find out if you cancel your order what impact it has on the dealer, if any. Then you can let the dealer know you have researched it and they have no financial impact for your cancellation and you expect your money back. Just my thoughts, not sure if it is proper protocol or not.

I would let Dodge know if you have no VIN and the dealer refuses to refund your deposit. They have no say in the matter, but the dealership is a fanchise and they want to know about the customer experience.
