Has anyone had a dealer tell them Dodge is requiring a $10K deposit on sold orders and the customer has to write a letter stating that they want a Hellcat & why? I spoke to a dealer who stated they have to send Dodge a copy of the check (for the deposit) and the letter after placing the order. They even showed me an email to their rep checking the status of another customer's order that referenced the letter that was submitted.

This just seems odd to me; like having to beg Dodge to give them $70K for a car.

I was asked for a $2500.00 deposit for my Charger in September from my nearest dealer and others wanted $5000.00. If you figure the exchange, you would be best to purchase in Canada at MSRP.

Dodge usually doesn't tell the dealer how much of a deposit to put down. My dealer only wanted $1000, but that was back in July. And they haven't asked for any letter. I've always felt the letter to Dodge was an urban legend just to give the dealers something to post in the lunch room for others to giggle at. But hey, what do I know. I'm just sitting here with a VON since a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

On August 4th I was told if I put down $10,000.00 I would have their #1 spot guaranteed.. no problem! I handed it over... a month later I got a VON on Sept 9th and was PROMISED they HAD an allocation, actually 2.. and told it was only a matter of time.. Two days into the third allocations on Jan 13th.. I gave up and found my car myself sitting on a lot like a cat in a animal shelter.. purchased and drove home the 14th, got my 10 grand back from dealer 1.. My "ALLOCATED VON" is still sitting untouched.

We had to do this because back in the late Summer/Fall, our dealer only had 1 allocation and we were #2 on the list. We were told that the Dodge Rep wanted this to attempt to get a car outside of the normal allocation. It failed, but we did get a VIN on 1/26. The check was never deposited. Ended up being some stupid game having to prove that we are Mopar to the hilt ('71 Challenger, '74 Cuda, '72 Duster, '11 392 Chally, '14 Ram), like that has meaning to a new car dealer. Even had to provide our club affiliations (Houston Mopar Connection, Space City LX). Really, what does that matter when you're a customer with money?

I am not surprised by this. My dealer was totally up front and honest with me and he said that when he went to order the Hellcat Charger, he had to do a letter about the buyer and how he was a long time Dodge customer and why he should get the car. He had to prove it was a sold order. I am not sure that happened on the Challenger, I didn't ask. It did seem like my build went through really fast and it was my 5th Dodge purchase from the dealer so, maybe he submitted something proving that, I don't know. But he definitely said he did that with the Charger.:)

To clarify further on this, the dealer did the letter, not the purchaser and I doubt he had to put that kind of deposit down.

Na, once I had my Cat and the game was over.. I was DONE. I wanted to stay on the positive high.. i just let it go, I have my Hellcat.. one that was meant for me :)

As a rub I did drive the hellcat to dealer #1 to pick up my deposit..n they said they didn't blame me.. my Rep wasn't there that day and ive never heard a peep from her since I first informed her I was giving up on my "allocated" order...
