So I got home a few days ago, hit the 500 mile mark in short order and immediately grabbed the red fob and went for a joy ride. It's the first time I've used the red fob since I bought the car in December, the anticipation was unbearable.

    Initial impressions...
    1. Unbelievable!
    2. I'm going to need more tire.

I went to Discount Tire today to order a set of drag radials. The kid at the counter was helpful and spent quite a bit of time trying to hunt down a set nearby. He attempts to enter the 305's we'd found into his system and he was blocked from ordering them due to my "wheel size not being compatible". I told him no worries, I understand the liability issue of installing them and I'd take them somewhere else to be mounted. He asked his manager if this was ok and was told no. Long story short, they refused to sell me the tires. I posted the question of the necessity of Discount tire vetting and approving my car for a tire purchase and will post the answer when I hear back.

Guess I'll order from Summit or Jegs, I can't wrap my head around being denied a tire purchase. Thanks Discount for saving me from myself...

TireRack gave me a hard time when I tried ordering some tires for my stock 20s. I don't see the big deal about ordering tires when they won't be mounting them.

Order them as "loose". Then bring in the wheels to have them mounted and say they are for an "off road vehicle". If ordering online order by size and not vehicle, in the comments put "for offroad use". That ought to get around that BS.
Their records won't have a vehicle that they need to worry about you coming back to sue them.

Or stick with a local shop they're always willing to go the extra miles . Mine told me that they will get whatever I think will fit and if it doesn't they will take them back and get a smaller set in .

I can lie to them but why should I have to? That's what annoys me.

I for sure won't be specifying a vehicle in the future.

Because it's a cover your ass and round peg round hole world. Little chart says X doesn't fit Y. No grey area for people to use their grey matter.

Remember the Ford Explorer fiasco ? People lowered tire pressures below minimum safe for highway use to make the ride softer. Lots of tire failures and lawsuits.
We now have TPMS and tire shops can be held liable for knowingly mounting an unapproved manufacturer wheel/tire combination, nor one not approved by tire associations.
We can no longer be trusted making our own decisions. Lawyers.

There's my gripe, I told them I'd have them mounted elsewhere. You hit the nail on the head though...lawyers.
