A known dyno guy offered a free tune to the first hellcat in his shop. I didn't want a tune but agreed to the dyno. First pull he was over 1500 HP and muttered something about static and put a ground on the car. Next pull was 664 HP and the next 663.5. With his calculator and punching buttons for a minute he said that is like 800 HP on the crank. 664 is on the back wheels guys and you would not believe the flow from the exhaust. Mine is an automatic and he said if it was cool and fully broken in it could add 30 or so HP. If his calculations are correct this is much more than the 707 advertised. Temp here was 77 and humidity 32%

Nice, I have seen numbers of 650 or so, 664 even better! 80 horsepower is needed to turn the blower itself:eek:

If that black Challenger at Edinburg was really stock and ran 133mph that's 800 ponies at the crank.

:) Dodge has a history of underrating their engines a little bit.

I am not totally surprised.I have heard rumors from " in the know Dodge People" who have stated the HC generates something north of 800 hp. Maybe with more dyno tests like yours we will start to get a clearer picture of HP. Thank you for sharing your information.

what is the purpose of under rating it?
is the insurance less for 707 vs 800? nope

there is no reason.....was the 392 or the 6.1 under rated?

what other dodge since 1971 has under rated hp?

Well not all engines are the same - and HP will vary. They need guarantee 707 at the lower end of the spectrum - this many will be over 707 HP.

yup and this is from either the crank or the wheels, probably the crank. but the SC takes 60hp to run and thats before the crack/fly. so it is at minimum 767 raw.

You can take a car to different dyno's and have different numbers from each, so it means nothing . Most car mfg's will under rate HP by a small percentage because of what happened to Ford with the cobras, people sued Ford for less HP than what they advertised and Ford had to fix every car built... Dyno's are tuning tools to get the car close, track adjustments after reading the logs are fine tuning....
