I went and got my car on a dyno to see some results from tuning. I also wanted to see what a canned tune was really worth. Last, I wanted to see how accurate the TTDyno computer program is.

So I went this dyno previously and got a 587 rwhp and 547 rwtq stock baseline. Later, I replaced the ECU and got a trinity handheld tuner. I did some data logging with it and found out that the car was getting 3-5 degrees ST knock retard everywhere in the rpm band logged. I have seen this before with my old R/T and I knew it meant bad gas. This was the same tank of gas that I was running on the dyno. So I got new gas with a stabilizer and the knock went away completely. Returned to dyno for tuning and recorded a new baseline of 595 hp and 558 tq.

When I loaded the 93 octane canned tune running around town, the car started showing ST knock again. I loaded the 91 canned tune and had zero knock. On the dyno, we loaded up the 91 canned tune and the car made 626 hp and 584 tq. So the tune was worth 31hp and 26tq which is basically what they advertise.

I was pleasantly surprised with the result. Next, the guy tuning opened up the CMR stuff for a custom tune to see if he could get more. He richened up the AFR from 13.5-13.7:1 on the 91 canned tune to 12.5:1, but power did not increase. He was showing some knock as well, so he ended up pulling a little timing out of the tune. He also increased the rev limit 300 rpm which accessed another 21 hp for a final tune of 647hp and 578tq.

This is my final run compared to the 91 tune. When I returned home, I did some more data logging and I saw zero ST knock, so I put the pulled timing back into the tune. Next, I did some comparing to what the TTDyno program showed. Details for that tomorrow.

    So a quick summary:

    HP / TQ
    587 547 - bad gas
    595 558 - (8 / 11) new gas / fuel stabilizer
    626 584 - (31 / 26) 91 canned tune 6100 rev limit
    647 584 - (52 / 26) custom with 6400 rev limit

Amazing how the bad gas plays a role in the tuning. That's almost half the claimed gain of some aftermarket intake systems.

    $1099 (PCM - i2) or $1199 (PCM - trinity) for a 52 HP / 26 TQ gain; not bad at all!

Any issues with the raised rev limiter and transmission shifting?

No issues, functions like it was that way from the factory. Much higher rpms and I'm sure I'd find the trans limp mode rev limit like I did in my R/T. Different trans though so maybe not. This was all done with about 1200 miles on the car.

Also, I found that my stock dyno curve matches American Racing Headers' dyno graph for a stone stock car and one other dyno graph from a company called Vengence Racing.

I didn't know I had bad gas in the car until I purchased the Trinity and did some logs.

That's some good Intel MoparR/T thx for sharing.;) So the PCM & Trinity you have $1200 invested? I thought the PCM cost that much?

That's awesome, my question is, if you have to take it into the dealer and you throw your stock PCM in can they tell you changed the PCM recently?

Sorry if this is a noob question

This was done at Ravenworks in Maple Grove. Unfortunately, the owner has closed up the shop at the end of the year and is retiring. The former employee of his that did the tuning told me that he can still rent his dyno for a little while though for future tuning. I don't know for sure though.

Well I do not know yet. I will be getting an aluminum driveshaft at some point and I want to get 2 spare stock slingshot wheels to mount the stock tires back on for hwy use so I don't waste my drag radials on the hwy. I am wrestling with whether I am going to leave the engine alone or keep modding. I feel like I should leave it stock, but I have a hard time not modding my cars I already have a water/meth system from my R/T that I could install. I would also like to put headers on it, possibly that 3.09 rear gear as well. Would like to get the crank pinned though. Decisions Decisions

HHP has the PCM and Trinity for $1200

this engine is capable of alot of rpm.. I turned an FE 427 Ford at 6,500 for years.. this engine is better in every way--I see no reason with enough fuel, that this engine cant do 7,000 rpm all day long..
