Question for Hellcat owners - When I start the car, there is some oil smoke for a short period of time. I'm just wondering if everyone is seeing this.

I read an article that stated the following:
"The large-nosed crank drives a high-flow gerotor oil pump that feeds a lubrication circuit servicing eight high-flow piston cooling jets. A high-capacity oil/air heat exchanger, mounted in the front of the car, mitigates oil temperatures when driving conditions are harshest, such as on track days."

Maybe there is residual oil in the cylinders from a lubrication system?

Here is a video of the first time the car was started at the dealership (you can see the smoke).

I can't get the video to play. What color is the smoke?

Could be a number of things, but the one that comes to mind are the oil rings on the pistons. The are attached to the piston and scrape the walls of the cylinders clean. There is generally a break in time for those so they "seat" and properly scrape the oil from the walls. I wouldn't be too concerned about it for now. Follow recommended break in procedure and just be aware of it going away after a few hundred miles. Bring it to the Dealers attention if it does not. What does the SRT mechanic say there at the Dealership?

Just saw the video. I still can't tell the color of the smoke. Probably just a wee bit of oil that seeped. Should be fine since its just that little puff. If it were consistent I'd be worried.

Where do you live? If it's cold out that puff of smoke is normal.

My Challenger RT would do that every once in a while it has 8k miles on it. Or it did when I sold it.
Never had any issues with it.

Every video I have seen of a hellcat start up cold, there has been blue smoke.

Near you if you live in GA. White vapor would be normal in the cold, gray not so much.

I would hope once everything is broke in that would stop. I is fun to see a car like mine. OMG! It sounds so beast! I cannot wait! This is the longest weekend ever waiting for Monday to get here and pick up my Hellbaby! That truck better get there early. I am bringing a lunch, just in case!! I told the dealer I was gonna hang out and help sell cars! I probably know more about them than most the salespeeps anyway! LOL:D

I'm thinking just a little seeped during shutdown and burns off when you start it up. I'd watch levels visually and not depend on the "gauges" just to make sure.

I have not asked the dealer about it yet. Maybe it's normal. I have 40 miles on the car now and when I started it this morning in my garage the smoke was noticeable with the sun shining through the windows.

Don't worry about it. My Porsche always did that so did my BWMS and even My Ford Raptor does from time to time. Just moved the Raptor out of the garage to get the christmas tree down and it smoke almost the same.
Nice video! can't wait to get my red hellcat.
