Reuters just posted an exclusive that has grabbed our attention. According to suppliers familiar with the company's plans, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has delayed the redesign or release of at least a dozen current or new vehicles in North America. According to Reuters this very unusual number of delays could let the automaker defer billions of dollars in investment while searching for a partner. Where have we heard that before?

Among the North American vehicles FCA has delayed updating are the RAM 1500 pickup and the Jeep Wrangler utility vehicle. Conversely, FCA is accelerating development of certain vehicles under the Alfa Romeo brand . The brand may be getting more models on a faster schedule than originally planned, suppliers told Reuters.

Some readers may remember when FCA made its future model plans the centerpiece of it's five-year $50 billion plan that Sergio outlined to investors in May 2014. Since they came out with that plan, at least twelve (12) future vehicle programs have been delayed at Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler and Maserati. Some of these delays will be by a year or more the suppliers said. Why? The suppliers speculate that "last-minute design and engineering changes, including some that could reduce FCA's overall investment" are probable reasons.

Where do our beloved Charger's and Challenger's fall in all of this? For those that haven't heard, the major redesign of the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger was originally slated for mid- to late 2018...well according to the suppliers that time-frame could slip to 2019 or later. Ugh :(

It's frustrating to hear. Of course it may or may not be the case, or partly accurate, and we should take the news with a grain of salt.

Still, I would rather hear good news of a prosperous Chrysler. The airline industry has (had) similar issues, the aircraft building business, in fact the whole damn world economy.

Sheesh, what's a car but who loves his Challenger HC to do?

    ENJOY it, that' what!

I personally love the current design of the chally hellcat. And 2018-2019 is a ways off, a lot could happen.

Which is EXACTLY why other things are being delayed. You're running a business, certain things sell very well while others don't sell worth a damn. Sink more money into things that already sell, or delay them a bit to invest in things that DON'T sell and try to improve them??

A business that only focuses on what sells won't be in business very long.

You nailed it. Also Dodge is really working over the younger crowd (late teens/twenties) and planting seeds via Gran Turismo/Tomahawk, sponsoring motorcross teams and movies (Fast and Furious). These are the future buyers. They are really working overtime to bring awareness to the brand in a whole new way.

They are working to secure their future is the way this is all playing out

And if you delay development of what sells to improve what doesn't sell, then after all the time and money wasted on that product it still doesn't sell; your in big trouble....Big gamble! Development and costs should be staggered.....What is selling well today is old and I doubt can sustain sales volumes for much longer...IMO
