So I finally got my Hellcat last Thursday, I had to fly to Philadelphia to pick it up and obviously the plan was to take a road trip home. First, I'd like to say that awesome is not even a word I can use to describe the Hellcat. By far this is the most comfortable car I've driven and you'd think that it has 707HP, but to me I didn't feel like so. I found it very easy to drive as long as you don't slam on the fun pedal.

So I spent both Thursday and Friday in Pennsylvania saw Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, and Gettysburg. The drive trough Pennsylvania was phenomenal due to clean roadways. On my way to Pittsburgh I decided to take US-30W and drive through the twisties. I have to say she handled beautifully.

Yesterday I was on my final leg of the trip and was passing through Columbus, OH via I 70-W, I already passed Columbus by about 20 miles, and was on my way to Indianapolis, I was driving in the middle lane and then had to move over the right lane in order to get off an exit. As I am changing lanes out of nowhere flies out a piece of metal, and goes right under Hellcat (as I am changing lanes). I hear a thumping sound and see smoke coming out the hood and the rear wheel wells here I am thinking "Oh crap". So I shutdown the engine and coast in neutral to the shoulder. I had a feeling that my oil-pan was gone, and I was correct. The oil pan was completely shattered, no fixing it. My bumper, Oil cooler, and possibly radiator have been damaged as well. But it could have been worse. I took as many pictures as I could, and then called a tow, had the car raised on a lift, and took some more pictures...I really didn't want to leave the car at some dealership in Ohio, so I hired a towing company to tow it Chicago...we arrived in Chicago at 4AM today...looks like I'll need to find a good SRT Service Center in Chicago to get her back on the road ASAP, if you have any recommendations please share.

It could have been worse. I hope that the engine itself is okay, everything else can be fixed. It's time to deal with the insurance company again. Good thing I have the evidence in my trunk...that piece of metal I brought it back to Chicago with me.

Damn, sorry to hear of your bad luck on this. Been driving for 40 years and never had anything like this happen. On a brand new car? Keep you chin up, as the car is as good as you found the first part of your trip to be. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Man that really sucks. I feel bad. I can't believe how good you sound though about it. I would be a wreck and would probably sell the car, and yes it could of been worse. It'll all work out. This is the reason why I would never pickup a car and drive it back, but have it delivered, just cannot trust these roads or the maniacs on them. I'll say a prayer for a speedy recovery!

Wow how crappy to happen to your new cat! Love the B5 too!

Is your insurance taking care of you?

Man I'd be scared the motor could be damaged losing all that oil that quickly.

OMG, I am so sorry to read about this, how horrible! I am glad that nobody was hurt, the car can be repaired easier than people can. I hope that this is reparied very soon, and that you are back out enjoying that gorgeous B5 HellCat! Please keep us updated on how your insurance handles this for you.

Sounds like this happened to you about 10 minutes from where I live, if that. I have noticed the stretch of 70 you are referring to has road junk all over it all the time - it's ridiculous. I hit blown tire pieces a few weeks ago in that same area and caused some nice damage as well... at least you don't commute that spot every day like I do!

I would be devastated if I were you, so more power to you my friend. It'll all work out - parts can be replaced, and you'll move on with the car to drive her another day!
