I was wondering and hope this hasn't been posted before , but has anyone noticed their fuel and temp gauges don't move up and down smoothly. Then putting fuel in my gauge will jump a needle width at a time then stop and then a needle width again then stop. Temp gauge does the same, jumps a needle width at a time. Will the PCM flash correct this?

well seeing as they are not analog, I would imagine they will jump immediately based on the sensor reading instead of gradually like an analog would.

Probably an artifact of being part of a digital display panel and not an actual gauge attached to a dash panel. Everything has it limits.

Yes, I noticed early on that they do that and I suppose have gotten used to it...don't even notice it now. Personally, I would not take the chance of them messing with the car for that...

All my opinions are my own.

    There's a delay.

The ECM/PCM knows exactly what's going on immediately, but there is a delay programmed in. That way you don't get swings in the gauges when accelerating, or braking, or a jerky stop, or you don't see the water temp swings after a warm restart.

It's an engineers way of saying "I don't want to hear stupid people complain about a swinging gauge".

Yah, temps and levels fluctuate while driving, but general Joe public doesn't understand that, so off to the dealer it goes.....
