New to the forum here. I'm looking at possibly trading my Mercedes AMG in for a hellcat. I live in WV and will be daily driving the car 12-15k miles a year. I have a 99' gmc 2500 I can drive on the snowy and nasty winter days. However, it's not a daily winter driver and I would be driving the cat as long as no snow is in the forecast. But I will obviously put winter tires on it soon as temps drop below 40, (usually around November), As I have on all my cars in the past. I'm curious to how many of you daily your hellcat? How does the car handle adverse weather? What are maintenance costs like? And I know this is completely dependent of driving habits and right foot dexterity, but those of you who drive reasonable let's say 80% of the time, how is tire wear? I drive mostly interstate to and from work and will be obeying traffic laws MOST of the time. The hellcat is near the top of my short list. However, due to the fact I will be DD my car, I'm trying to get as much info as I can on what to expect as yearly maintenance and wear n tear costs.

Also, I'm having no luck with a test drive at the local dealers. I'm not trying to compare brands or anything as this is truly a dealer thing I believe. But my Mercedes dealer has let me test drive pretty much every AMG or any other model they have on the lot without hesitation. But not happening at the dodge dealers around here. All I want to do is drive a hellcat so I can decide what I want to spend my money on. I know the car isn't going to have the refinement of the German cars, but that's not What I'm focused on. I just want a well built vehicle that is going to meet all my needs, be a good DD while putting a big huge smile on my face in the process! I really think the cats will do that at a much cheaper price point than the Mercedes. But I just can't get behind the wheel of one to confirm that. I have shown the dealers my financial Ability to purchase the vehicle, expressed my seriousness and interest in the car. But they basically tell me test drives don't exist on these cars. Surely, SOME owners test drove these things before purchase??? If anyone knows of any dealers in WV or surrounding states that would be more accommodating please let me know!

    Thanks!

daily driver here--high quality and total monster.
as for test drives, why would they?? it needs no explanation or test on power and even 25 miles or higher would depreciate the car $10,000 on the retail market.
buy it--as a multiple Benz owner I can tell you that you will not be disappointed.

    Welcome to the forum!

I wouldn't call my car a daily driver but I do put about 1,000 or so miles per month on it just ridding around killing time and enjoying the car.

It's very comfortable, and I bet that it's a bit more "refined" than you may be aware of. I know that there's a perception or maybe more of a stereotypical idea of what a "Dodge" is all about, but these cars are not made to fit into that mold.

I'm sure that there have been some test drives but I've zero knowledge of them and I've heard lots of complaints about the lack of test drives. You may consider finding a used one on a lot somewhere and asking to test drive it or you may want to consider asking to test drive a nicely equipped 392/6.4 car just to get an idea of what to expect. If you like one of those cars, you'll love the Hellcat, it's just more of the same, ALOT MORE!

I'm not the guy to ask about tire wear or gas mileage. I take good care of the car but I don't "baby" it:rolleyes:

The only reason why I wouldn't use this car as a DD is because it has a major drinking problem and I don't want road ware. If you don't care about that, then HECK YES! I guess you could run it in eco mode on your commutes.

If you were closer, I'd let you drive mine... I'm probably responsible for 5 or 6 Hellcat purchases in our Viper club.

Mine is my daily driver, Sublime A8 Challenger....I took delivery nearly a year ago and have 15k miles. I put Xpel on the front bumper and behind the rear wheels and rear view mirrors. Also added Mopar rock gaurds and Weathertech floor mats and a JLT catch can.

Car has ruined me for anything else as a daily driver. It's easy to drive, comfortable, lots of room....and a lot of fun. I have the all season tires and need to replace the rears, but that is mostly due to my driving style.

I haven't had any issues with my car... I changed the oil at 500, 4k, 8k, 12k and will be changing at 16k miles.

Most important for me....the range is over 300 miles per tank and I'm averaging 19 mpg's over the 15k miles (which includes a track day at VIR).

I don't know of any dealers that will let you test drive one, but I can gaurantee you that you'll love it.

I do drive in Eco mode everyday in traffic and it's only a push of a button to get into 707 hp mode. Although Eco mode is 500 hp and plenty to pass almost any car I run into. I probably get into 707 hp on a daily basis...because it's soooo much fun.

Post pics when you pick it up and welcome!

You could easily daily drive this vehicle. I don't mine but only because I work from home or travel so I don't have a commute, but I would have zero issue driving it daily. As for test drives, I honestly can't say I blame the dealer. If they let everyone that came in test drive these things it would depreciate them, not to mention the liability of some jackass hammering the throttle and spinning it out of control. See if you can drive a 392, then just imagine it being A LOT faster and more fun.

Thanks for all the replies! Next phase, how do you like the xpel. I've been looking into that as well. Nearest place for me is Pittsburgh, which I don't mind driving up if it really works and holds up as advertised.
Also, have any of you drove both the charger and challenger. I know it's the same motor but I'm curious in the diff in driving the two. One being coupe and other sedan. I'm torn between the two. I like the old school looks of the challenger but the charger is very sleek and mean looking as well. I don't necessarily need the sedan. But occasionally have a back seat passenger. The wife has been tossing the baby word around though. Is the back seat of the challenger car seat friendly?

Well like you i got out of my E55 amg afew yrs ago and drove some other cars.. Man did i miss that car. Well i found the replacement.. Hellcat. You will like the car. Nice inside close to the amg but i had the dynamic seats, actively hold you in and give you a massage. Still not bad for FCA. Fast and more power and torque. Rides as nice. Better handling compared to my 9yr old car. Better gas mileage as well. I dont know how it compares to the new 2014 E63 amg but its also 30k less.

Mine is a daily driver through rain, sleet and snow. I have 23,000 miles and love the car. No dealer will let you test drive, so put up a post looking for a owner in your area. They may not let you drive but can take you for a ride in one.

It can just cruise around or it can be a maniac. It does whatever your right foot tells it to do. That being said...I drive mine daily on my short commute to work and leisure rides when time allows. It's also a very comfortable car. I could easily see me taking it on one of my yearly road trips to Minnesota. You won't regret it!!

I took delivery beginning of March, and I'm pushing 8k miles on it so far. Based on that, it looks like it's going to be ~24k miles a year. We don't get any snow/ice in Phoenix, but it is hot. You will get used to the power, and only want more. Once you're off the line, another 300 HP would be nice. :)

I daily drive mine as well. 19,700 in less then a year isn't to bad. I've spent more money on tires then I have on gas. Really just depends on how you drive it. And as for road wear? As long as your not hitting pot holes all the time haha, these cars a made to be driven. When cars shit forever is when seal dry out, etc. Get it any enjoy it

    WHAT!!!!
    Daily drive it?!?
These are extremely rare irreplaceable museum collector cars that will be worth millions in the future!
They are to be kept inside under a cover and only brought out for the occasional burnout or Mopar show.
    NOT!!!!
Drive the wheels off of it man, we ain't getting any younger and you can't take them with us.
What would you rather drive everyday?
    A ford escort?

I like the Xpel, it has saved the front bumper and would recommend it. It is thicker than some of the other brands (good/bad). For a darker color, I would use another brand that I have on our granite crystal metallic Durango (can't recall the name...but I'll get back with you)

I have 2 kids and take my 9 month old daughter to daycare daily. It's the only muscle car that will accommodate a rear facing baby seat and still allow a passenger up front. It actually has better rear passenger head room than the Charger believe it or not.

I will most likely get a Charger HC in the future and contemplated one initially but I prefer the looks of the Challenger.
