For any of you Cats thinking about the CTS-V...

A video has surfaced showing a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat racing against a new 2016 Cadillac CTS-V and in almost every match, the supercharged Mopar beat the supercharged Caddy – often doing so in impressive fashion.

The two most powerful sedans in dealerships around the United States are the 2015/2016 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V. The Hellcat Charger, as we all know, packs a supercharged 6.2L Hellcat Hemi with an official rating of 707 horsepower and 650lb-ft of torque. The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is powered by a similar supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 to that in the C7 Corvette Z06, but in the Caddy, the LT4 “only” delivers 640 horsepower and 630lb-ft of torque according to the official specs.

Based on those numbers alone, many would expect that the Hellcat Charger would hand the new CTS-V a beating in a head to head race, but we need to keep in mind that there is a fairly substantial weight difference between the two. The supercharged Charger has a curb weight of 4,575lbs while the Cadillac curb weight is listed at 4,134lbs, so when the two cars are sitting empty, the Dodge is around 441 pounds heavier than the CTS-V.

That weight differential has given GM fans hope that the most powerful Cadillac and the most powerful GM sedan of all time would be able to tackle the Hellcat Dodge, but based on the video below showing the two going head to head – the Hellcat Charger is still the king of the US sport sedan segment.

Awesome! That Caddy is good looking but not for the price and lack of being able to beat the Cat.

One race doesn't determine the future.

Me too...maybe with cars leaving at same time. Would be even worse outcome for the Caddy.

This remimds me when the first Tesla vs hellcat video came out. Or when the first z06 vs hellcat video came out. Over time once people started learning how to drive hellcats the Tesla vs hellcat debate was pretty clear now its not talked about anymore. When the first auto hellcat went up against a manual z06 and beat it the hellcat is faster than a z06 threads started. Auto vs auto the z06 is faster. You really don't understand cars if you think a charger is going to pull on a ctsv like that. Like someone said it was one race, that one race doesn't decide the fate of these two cars.

Yep - auto vs auto - a Z06 is going to faster. I was amazed at how close the races are since, as you said, if people know cars they would think it wouldn't be that close...yet it is. Hmmmmm - which then leads someone who knows cars can clearly see the Hellcat makes a fair bit more HP then it's advertised rating as that really is the only logical answer (that or like the good 'ol days Mopar HP ratings were based on fire breathing Clydesdales where the General used Shetland ponies).

Now if I were to take away the Z06's massive weight advantage...and I don't know, add say 600 lbs...like say putting that motor in a heavier 4 door sedan...hmmmmm...but then that would mean that a CTS-V could compete with a Z06 - auto for auto.

No, wait, that race shows pretty much what anyone who knows cars would expect lol.
