Crappy driver here in Hawaii was texting or sleeping in the car next to me, drove into my lane and made me hit the concrete barrier on my left side. Over $10k in damages. The work will take until the end of July. It ripped the bumper off and raked the sh&* out of the wheels. Still waiting on full damage assessment. The least damage is on the front rim.

Damn NDI's (Non-Driving Individuals). I would've made them hit me so at least I have their paint on my car to show fault. Then I would help them plant their cell phone where butt dialing has a whole new meaning.

Hawaii is a "No Fault" state so it doesn't matter whose fault it was but then I would have damage on both sides. It's killing me not driving for so long. :(

Dang, that blows, but I agree with Am Muscle. I would never have swerved so much as to hit a concrete barrier. Swerve enough to try to avoid them but if impact is imminent they need to hit you instead, so their is proof they hit you, and that A-hole has damage that way too. Otherwise they drive off damage free and say, "I didn't hit him he must of fell asleep or was texting and swerved into a wall" and you are stuck with the damage.
Did the person at least stop and admit fault? Or did you get a witness?

I only had about 4 ft on my side to begin with and the other driver didn't even notice and kept going. My insurance is covering it all, I just have to pay the $500 deductible.

^^Yeah that's what I figured. The other driver probably really did notice, but choose to pretend he/she didn't and kept driving.
Now you are the one with the damaged car for a fault they did.
I'd of swerved 2 of the 4 feet and then when it was imminent, let he/she hit you and turn a bit to the right to keep you from being pushed into concrete barrier and push back at him/her. Contact with his/her car would of done less damage than a solid concrete wall. If you are in this situation again, remember that.
People make the same mistake with small animals crossing the road. They swerve to try to miss it and then lose control and crash into something.
F that little rabbit or armadillo or raccoon...if you see you can't easily stop or make a very small correction to miss it, plow right into it, better than being in a ditch or into a telephone pole.
Did you not lay on your horn when you saw him/her coming at you? If so, he/she clearly just drove off to pretend he/she didn't hear or see anything.
Damn that blows. I'd of chased them down. But then again, I have a dashcam to protect me for reasons just like that.

Sorry Daniel..remember the day you received the first HC in Hawaii...glad you are all right:)

A little off subject....had to drive the van-pool into work last Thursday and came across this ( we were just 20 cars behind..and no police or fire arrived at the scene yet....another distracted driver)

A black Toyota Avalon sedan heading east at an unknown speed drifted into the westbound lane and struck the left rear of an empty tanker truck traveling at 55 mph.

As it continued into the westbound lane, the driver of a Chrysler 300 behind the tanker swerved off the road to avoid it, taking minor damage. The driver was unhurt.

The Toyota collided head on with a Chevy Equinox that had been following the Chrysler. The impact pushed the Chevy partially into a ditch embankment next to the road, and the driver was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital with minor injuries.

Damn that sucks. I had someone do something similar to my Range Rover awhile back. As much as I wanted to hunt him down, it's probably best he got away. :)
