This past Saturday I spent a good 90 minutes driving a Tesla and checking out the AWD EV monster on my local roads.
Compared to my about-to be-delivered Hellcat...

    1) Tesla feels easily as fast up to around 85mph.
    2) Off the line is simply crazy fast!
    3) The interior and seats are VERY cheap feeling compared to the Hellcat.
    4) Ride quality and noise levels...amazingly good.
    5) Handling is DULL.
    6) It's just not exciting like the Hellcat

The Hellcat is about a billions times more fun 99% of the time, but there are many factors in spending time in a car and the Tesla may very well be the best car in the world. As transportation, it's just amazingly quiet and comfortable and the overall experience is highly refined. Better cosmetics would finish off this impression.

No way would I buy a Tesla before a Hellcat. But my wife and I easily decided to BUY a Tesla in the fall when we move to LA. It's a GREAT and truly American car.

Not ready to change from the sound of an American V-8 to the hum of an electric motor....plus the umbilical cord...

I'm not changing. I'm adding the hum of the 100% American electric motor.

Tesla is one of the most American companies around, more so than FCA. Tesla has proven that we can LEAD in the auto market rather than just compete. No one has bested the Tesla or even come close in the EV market.

Robert, how do the tax credits play in and does that outweigh the cost of any modifications to your home which may be required to power it? Guessing we're not talking a regular outlet?

Never said Telsa was or wasn't a great company...just I would not give any consideration to buying their car....there is no infrastructure to support it everywhere and I just don't like an electric car...or the hum...but somebody likes it as Telsa is doing well..

The new model 3 that was unveiled is what I would get. It's a bit ugly with the duck bill front bumper but would be great as my daily driver. It's not fast I know but I would rather pay model p money on a weekend car like a hellcat gt350r or gtr.

I commute to far to work and on some of the worst and most congested roads in the north east. I hate driving my hellcat to work because I worry to much about it same with my truck when I had it. I just last year replaced my civics windshield twice in 2 months because of stones.

The new Model 3 Tesla will hit 60 MPH in under 6 seconds in the BASE model, so we should expect much faster from the higher end models.

They will be sold out for a long time at the 35-45K price range.

When it comes to cars I'm very patriotic. When Obama gave them all that cash (now repayed) I was happy, but still worried. Today Tesla has crushed every foreign builder with superior tech and many feel the Tesla is the best "car" in the world.
And it's American. Add the Tesla to the list along with the Hellcat, Caddy CTS-V, Vette, Jeeps and other US brands that are all-conquering for their class and price segment. The US auto industry has roared back.

I think the Tesla is only good for a couple of Insane Mode launches before you need to be looking for a juice bar. I would also miss doing some mods which I doubt Tesla has much to offer there.

    What?

Drive one over 50 miles and you'll see why this tech is fierce. It doesn't compete with a Hellcat. It's a very different kind of car and amazing to travel in. The new Model 3 looks equally good. My old man just pre-ordered one and he loves Mustangs. One thing has nothing to do with the other.
If you like to be "quick" a Tesla is a cool ride. And if you value comfort and safety, it may be the best thing going....and it's pure American all the way.

I haven't driven one either, but I keep an open mind. When I get the opportunity, I will take one for a test drive.

My nephew drove a Model S P85D. Both he and his wife fell in love with it and are considering buying one. He is not a car guy like you and me.

I think you are doing the Tesla a disservice by comparing it to a golf cart...That's like comparing a Hellcat to a fancy riding lawnmower.
