So I'm looking at maps and reading stuff online. I really need some help here.

I'm picking up my HC in Phoenix next week and driving cross country to Philly. The only thing I know I'd like to do is spend some time on route 66. i really don't know anything else about what I should do.

    Anyone have any thoughts? Suggestions?

    Specific places to pass/stop?
    Towns to drive through?
    Roads to take/avoid?

I don't want to stop too much, driving straight through for 3 days alone. But I will be stopping, so If possible, I might as well make my stops somewhere worth while. Any input is appreciated.

Also, I'll be happy to take and post pics of my HC as we tour the country!

Hopefully the weather will cooperate. I would use a weather app and follow the dry roads...if possible. Here's to sunny, warm and dry conditions for your journey.!!!

40E all the way to OK City

Anything specific about this route besides drive time short?
    Any stops?
I was actually hoping to get it done in 35 or less (driving only). Possible?

And hit the local Walmart or something before heading out.

    Paper towels
    Windex
    Visine dry eyes
Couple nice cotton towels to fold and sit on and to protect seats from say spilt drink, cooler, etc
Cooler that holds at least a 12 pack
    LARGE travel mug. Like 24oz
Buy drinks, sugar free candies, whatever you need
And hatever else you can think of

    Pack sweatpants, slippers. Be comfortable.

Don't mess around trying to stretch out fuel out that way. I went Tuscon, east and up through NM with my cummins an was running out of fuel pulling in station

I was in the zone and it was 42-48 hours. Too long ago to remember. I was also in my 20's. It's a LONG ride, so don't try to convince yourself otherwise.

My route was to get me there and back as fast as I thought possible. I left on Thursday morning, back Sunday night and that was with hauling an open car trailer out and hailing a car full of crap back.

Your trip would be like going from the NJ shore to almost the bottom of Florida...and back in one shot.

My trip up to near you is about 1240 miles and I can make it in 17.5-18 hours..and barely make it with a short rest area nap.

I would drive straight across and hit the Smokies, maybe Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg... then a leisurely drive up VA thru SNP and Blue ridge parkway..

Go around Texas. I went on long motorcycle trip in 09 through there and when I got home I tore it out of my atlas. Terrible scenery. If you can do 40 through Tennessee and western NC. It is a beautiful ride.

If it was me, I'd be buying a second ticket for a co driver. And stretch it a few days if you want to look around.
