Most of the time I am highway driving in the Deep South (winter temps 30 degrees at the lowest). My Charger came with the Summer tires. First of all, what is the disadvantage of running these in the winter? Secondly, what tires would you guys use (front and back) if most of the use will be on the street and highway? Which size and type of back and front? I prefer not to buy new wheels. I have learned a ton on this site. Admittedly, I am a total beginner. Thanks in advance!

I'm from just north of Charlotte and have similar winters. I have the pirelli summers and I think they are just fine for year round. If you get in them right out of the garage they are pretty useless. Let them warm up a bit then your OK. Just not as good as in July. I just picked up a set of 305 pirellis for the back to match the front

Thanks! So you left the front stock and went with rear 305s. No issues at all? Are you happy with that set up? Do they fit our wheel alright?

Yes. Front stock. I had a set of 305 nitto drag radials on back with no problems. But now I'm back to stock in rear. My new 305 pirellis should be delivered today.

The manufacture suggest the summer tires not be run in temperatures below 35 degrees.

I'd love to hear what you think once you put them on.

...and if you've tried, you know why. They lose 75% of their grip.

Post a photo after you get your new Pirelli's installed.

I wouldn't recommend summer tires in less than 45 deg weather unless you like experiencing Disney on Ice first hand.

I had my Cat out today...Syracuse, NY...35 degrees, summer tires, dry roads. Pulled .78 Gs accelerating from 40 to 110...no spinning of tires...TC did not kick in...just a giant kick in the butt...

It was great to have her out on the road.

That's really weird. I drove on my factory summer tires in 35-40 degree weather and it was VERY loose. Driving normally I could feel the tires slipping a bit in turns that wouldn't normally be even close to the edge when it was warmer.

Member that guy that wreaked the first Hellcat in the country last year. While he was most likely inexperienced & hot rodding it, it did have summer tires and it was 40 degrees or so that evening.

Also Pirelli does say they can develop cracks on the sidewall if ran at under 45 degrees. Warranty will not cover it.

Hey 1949chopper, who are you using to mount your tires on your rims?

Absolutely no traction with those tires when Cold. Too much of a risk crashing it with all that power
