I've been in contact with three local dealers regarding the upcoming Charger Hellcat. None of which want to accept any form of deposit to secure an order. I don't know if that is good or bad, but any dealer refusing to accept money must be somewhat level minded.

However, I received the following email response this morning and need help deciding whether this dealership is full of malarkey or is being forthright and honest. You decide.

    Hey Bryan ,

I spoke to the manager several times about this. I do not know what the pricing will be on the cars yet. I know what the factory charges but all the dealers will be charging over sticker based on how many that they can get. Once we know what the allocation is, I can let you know and order what you like.

For example: Most dealers are charging 15k to 20k over sticker for the Challenger hellcat. We sold ours for 10k over. We were only allocated a few. They are only making 1375 challengers and there are over 4000 dealers. Most dealers will not even get to see one.

I will keep you first on my list..

    Thoughts?

This is a REAL IFFY email. However it sounds just like how I was about to deposit for the challenger in July. I wouldn't pay more than $5k over MSRP unless you had no other choice. His allocation will be one or two if not zero.

The correspondence I received this am from Fiat Chrysler:

Seems they are not limiting production of Challengers, they just cannot guarantee production and delivery times of either Challenger and Chargers.

ATTENTION: ALL CHRYSLER CANADA INC. RETAILERS
SUBJECT: 2015 DODGE CHALLENGER HELLCAT – PRODUCTION STATUS

Please be advised that the initial market demand for the 2015 Challenger Hellcat is very high, and demand is currently exceeding production capacity.
There is absolutely no intent to limit production of the Dodge Challenger Hellcat, and it is our intention to build whatever the market demands. However, it is important to manage customer expectations with regards to production timing.
Every effort is being made to meet current demand, but we cannot guarantee production timing for the 2015 model year Hellcat at this time.
Please talk to your customers interested in the 2015 Challenger Hellcat, and advise them that there could be an extended wait for production allocation.
When the 2015 Dodge Charger Hellcat opens for ordering later this year, we expect to see similar initial market demand. Please have the same conversation with any customers expressing interest in the Charger Hellcat.

That's what I thought. It sounded like complete bullsugar to me upon reading. But, since I do not have a Charger sitting in my garage, I will stick it out with this dealership until the order has been placed whether with them or another.

I also question the integrity of the dealer and is knowingly trying to lure me in with a markup lower than others, or if this dealer is telling what they know to be true. Perhaps they are simply not educated on the matter in the fullest extent as to what these forums have brought forth.

If you look long enough, you will find a dealer selling at MSRP. I would rather wait, and not pay over MSRP. They are not going to limit total production of the Hellcat, sooner or later you will get your car. Waiting is a pain the arse!!

Yes, if you are patient you will be able to get these reasonably priced next year when builds start cruising. There is just craziness right now and it is easy to get the price up there since everything is an option on the Charger that was stock with Chally. ;)

Knowing what I know now, I would tell the dealership that I want to be sure they actually have the allocation for my order before handing over any money. Also, even though it's far preferable to buy at MSRP, I'm not sure that is the norm. It seems the more I hear, MSRP is unusual, at least for right now. Personally, I wouldn't pay $10k over, but given the current conditions I could see $3k to $5k as understandable. Dodge's whole allocation system to discourage this practice, while well intentioned, offers no protection at all when people are lining up to pay prices that are over MSRP.

I think he inadvertently left out a few words in the email, perhaps due to using a smart phone or something. I have corrected the email to replace the words that were possibly redacted, as shown in the black text below.

    Hey Bryan ,

I spoke to the manager several times about this, I agreed with him that we should try and get whatever the market will bear. I do not know what the gouge pricing will be on the cars yet. I know what the factory charges but all the greedy dealers will be charging over sticker based on how many suckers that they can get. Once we know what the allocation is, I can let you know how much we plan to stiff you for and order what you like.

For example: The greediest dealers are charging 15k to 20k over sticker for the Challenger hellcat. We sold ours to some sucker for 10k over. We were only allocated a few. They are only making [insert real low number here] 1375 [/insert] challengers and there are over [insert real high number here] 4000 [/insert] dealers. Most dealers will not even get to see one.

I will keep you first on my suckers list...
