I'm trying to figure out how many engine failures have occurred with Hellcat motors. Could anyone tell me if
there is already a thread on this subject? Or could anyone that has had or knows of a failure post here.

My engine had the crank pulley slip so I know of this one.

I believe that NCWildcat has had this same issue and there seems to be a few others but any help figuring
this out would be much appreciated.

Any and all failures are of interest so please post any known failures.

I've only heard of a few... and all were related to the damper slipping on the crank. I haven't heard of any major catastrophic engine failures (Spun bearings, rods out the side of the block, dropped valves etc) and it's not like the guys are babying these cars... so the slipped damper has happened but I think overall it has been a small percentage. I think all the hellcat owners would agree the damper should have been keyed to the crank.

Thanks for your post Hemi Rocket.

There's a video on Youtube and it's also been posted on this site of an engine being replaced in a green cat. There were two dropped valves in
the same cylinder. Not sure of the cause but it's clear in the video that two valves broke and that the motor was replaced with a crate engine.

I've read about and been pm'ed here to the point of thinking that there have been 10 documented cases (from this site and user's of this site)
of the damper slipping causing motor replacement.

There also appears to have been three to five (unclear if two of them are being double counted) of motors "hydro locking" due to coolant leaking
    into the motor.

I'm in the middle of dealing with Dodge over my now two and a half month old cat that has had seven dealer visits including the last one for
the slipping crank pulley issue. I want to have the car replaced with a new one or repurchased. So, I'm trying to educate myself as much as
possible about these cars and this problem.

    Thanks again for your post.

Hey Greencat... It's wise to get all your ducks in a row and find out as much as you can. In the end what are you hoping for... new car... new engine or something different? I can't believe they would give you a hassle about the engine. I know you said your Cat has been back several times for warranty issues have they actually fixed the other issues? I've had mine back to the dealer a couple of times but not for anything serious. HK radio reflash and a security upgrade... the actually replaced my AMP, radiator (crimp issue), hose clamp upgrade, fuel rail recall. I did have a trunk alignment issue that I fixed myself. Knock on wood the engine and transmission have been bullet proof. I wouldn't lose faith yet on this car... it's had some issues... but I think they will get it right. The engineering behind the car is sound and I'll bet the SRT group is pretty ticked off about all the nuisance issues. I think the issue with many of these problems are the dealer... as some of the dealers aren't doing a good job of taking care of their customers... or they lack a good SRT tech. I'm fortunate as I have a good one up here who treats every Hellcat like it's his own.

All Hemis have some rocker arm breakage issues. They are well known. The Hellcat uses the same ones.

Some early Hellcat engine failures were documented as oil cooler line leaks and coolant leaks from the intercooler. I haven't seen mention of these issues in many months.

Hemi Rocket....I'm hoping for a replacement car. The Dodge rep told me last Thursday that she'd be in touch again with me Monday (tomorrow)
to give me any updates, if there are any.

Quite honestly I'm DONE with the current car. ZERO faith in the car, none what so ever, it's left me broke down on the side of the road three times
now. Plus the crank pulley issue makes the seventh trip to a dealer in two months. I like the overall concept and the looks of the Hellcat and I can
give anyone the benefit of the doubt so I'm willing to give Dodge one more chance. I'm not sure how Dodge will handle it but as soon as I know
    I'll post on this site.

You are correct and I'm attempting to get my ducks in a row.

TrackDay....I've saw photos of cracked rocker arms which may have caused at least one broken/dropped valve and a new motor. Do you or
anyone else know of a good aftermarket rocker arm for our cars? I get the impression that a pinned crank and good rocker arms would go a
very long way in making these motors "bullet proof".

What is the current status of your car, green cat? Is it at Codgill?

OK... Now I can understand your frustration and dissatisfaction. Sounds like you certainly got a lemon. As for aftermarket rockers yes there are a couple sources... check out this link to Shophemi.com for their Hemi roller rockers

bolivarshagnasty....After being treated well by everyone at Cogdill EXCEPT the service manager Roger, I decided not to deal with him again. I've
had enough of that jackass. So I went to Rocky Top on Highway 66 in Sevier County, TN. They have the car now and have been told by Dodge
not to touch it until the power train specialist tells them what to do. As of Friday early afternoon there hasn't been any word.

Hemi Rocket....Thanks. I've saw those previously but they are all still listed as out of stock until November of 2013. They've been listed that way
since late 2012. So I'm still looking but I do appreciate the link.

Greencat, I just wanted to say I'm really sorry to hear about the number of troubles you've had with your car. I had a 2012 Charger which was fine for about 6 months and then it was 1 problem after another. Since then my family has had 3 more without a single issue. If you choose to get another Hellcat after Dodge most likely buys back yours I wish you the same luck. When it all goes right this car puts a permanent smile on most of our faces.

Track day....Thank you. I hope to replace this car with a good one.

jsd512...The Hellcat motors have some really good parts in them but they also have a few "weak links". Nothing that a weekend of work and
a little help from the aftermarket can't fix.

I replied to your other thread, but add me to the failure list. Mine was also the crank pulley. When mine happened I was contacted by another member by the ID of Aaron. He also had the crank pulley failure. It shows he hasn't posted since Nov 4th. My car is an A8 for reference.
