How often should we change the oil with very few miles driven?

So this question goes for the coming HC and my other rides that share the miles driven in the household. Needless to say I know that the HC will be driven a lot more but how often would you change the oil even if you don't hit 5000K miles every 6 months. Should you be changing it every 6 months no matter what the mileage? I just changed the oil in all of my rigs and I'm hitting only 2500-3000 miles per every 6 months. Thanks for the advice!

I don't see any point in changing it every 6 months, you're just flushing money down the toilet for no reason.

Based on that mileage, do it once every 12 months

If the car is in warranty which all HC's are the book says 6 months 6000 miles whichever comes first. I'd hate to void the engine warranty myself.

I don't mind changing the oil every 6 months especially when the cat gets here. My other rigs I might go past a little depending on how much they are driven. I do my oil changes myself so it gets me out of the house ; )

    from FSM & owner's manual:

    • The oil change indicator message will not monitor the time since the last oil change. Change your vehicle’s oil if it has been six months since your last oil change, even if the oil change indicator message is NOT illuminated.
    • Change your engine oil more often if you drive your vehicle off-road for an extended period of time.
    • Under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 6,000 miles (10,000 km) or six months, whichever comes first.

if you want warranty coverage, best be able to prove that maintenance has been performed according to Chrysler established schedules.

Thanks Funky. It is ok if we do our own oil changes correct? That to me would seem crazy if they wouldn't let you.

Got it! Hey of topic but do you see the HC needing or benefiting from a catch can?

Also record them on Owner Connect, with oil type and odo miles. Keep your service records updated there...

Chrysler FCA. You should have received or will how to log on. Google mopar ownerconnect.

Then add your data see example below. One thing I often have to add notes to dealer entries to keep accurate understanding so fyi there...
