how can I tell if the car I purchased from out of state is California legal?

The sticker under the hood doesn't explicitly say it

    The sticker states the following:
    U.S. EPA: T2 B5 LDV
    OBD: CA OBD II
    CA: LEV II PC

does the above mean it's California legal

    Thank you

Ouch! Am panicking now as I will be getting the car smog fed within a couple of days to get it registered in California

Is the failed smog check happening to many other owners or was this a one off

D4SSWME Hellcat's meet federal Tier 2, Bin 5 emissions requirements, meaning it is classified as a LEV II (Low Emissions Vehicle) in California.

That's what the info means you posted.

You should receive this at purchase. If not 2nd pic is where to obtain . It explains your emissions warranty rights and what to do if your car fails smog tests. And what FCA will do (which is fix it, should it fail.)

The Hellcats are 50 state legal.
As has been stated, taking delivery in another state does require a SMOG TEST to subsequently register it in CA.
Mine was delivered in MI and I will be registering it in CA next year.
Any vehicle that is stock and fails SMOG in CA is an anomaly and should be corrected under warranty. I wouldn't worry about it.

Bought mine in Nebraska and just smog tested and registered it in CA. No issues at all.

Purchased my 2016 in Michigan, Smog tested and registered in CA with no issues. The HC is 50-state emissions compliant.

Just purchased my Challenger Hellcat about 3 weeks ago in Ohio. Mine was a pre-production model. Drove it to California (what a drive), registered and smoked with absolutely no problems at all!
