Interesting video. Some good basics, to live by. I enjoyed seeing the cat do that burnout, ~all the way down the track, insane!

Launching a manual is like doing a dance. The throttle work is similar to the auto, but the left foot is the key.

In my experience, go as far forward with the seat as you can while still maintaining full clutch travel (the g-forces will push you back farther than you expect).

Shallow stage - stop AS SOON as you trip the second staging light.

Count with the lights - they'll drop in half-second intervals....kind of like playing a musical instrument - timing is everything.
As the lights are progressing, think "yellow, yellow, yellow, GREEN". But here's the trick.... If you're shallow staged, you want to start letting the clutch out just before the third yellow light is coming on - gradually, but smoothly. You should NEVER see that green light. IF you red light, adjust your timing a very small amount. You'll get the feel for it soon enough. (I was routinely cutting .02 - .07 second RTs, and only red-lighted once in the last five years - damn good with a manual.)

Once she bites into the pavement, roll into that throttle pedal (don't slam it down) and short shift into second before you get to redline..... probably around 4200 - 4800 rpm's. That will help reduce wheel hop/spin as you "roll the throttle down" and get into second gear.
Make your shifts sharp and quick - BUT DON'T DUMP THE CLUTCH going into second. You'll lose everything you gained out of the hole if you do! This is where you'll gain or lose .2 - .3 seconds on the pass.

Wind her up in second and shift to third just before redline. Slip the clutch just a little going into third. MAKE SURE you get her into third cleanly. This is the shift most people miss and will cost you an otherwise great pass if you miss it.

Fourth gear will be just before the trap, so make it quick and clean.

    Have fun and be safe!

No worries, Bud. I have to "re-learn" how to launch an automatic with big HP. Best way I can think of is to do it with my own Hellcat. I guess I need help making that happen.

in my head i was thinking what about holding third thru the trap since its about equal to 5th in the A8? and bank the saved shift time at end of run?

The only way to find out is to run it on the track. I don't know how the Hellcat gearing will respond around the 3rd-4th shift point, and it will be a hair different on each pass....
The Tremec T6060 in my '09 was such that I would hit redline in 3rd gear about 300' before the trap. Shifting to fourth saved me a tenth on my ET and gave me better top speed than if I left it in 3rd and bounced off the limiter at 6250 rpm's.

Make sure you take a Snell/DOT approved helmet with you when you go to the strip.
NHRA rules require a helmet for any passes made under 13.99. You'll be well under that mark. :D

Great overview! I was practicing my launch today n 0-60 runs on the onramps. I struggled with traction cause roads are still dirty. I still have a lot of practice to do but the shift into second before redline is critical. I adjusted my rpm settings and made a difference. Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed my practices!
