Hey guys, first post. A funny thing happened to me this week. The wife and I were in LA and rented a car from Budget. I had originally reserved a Hyundai. The women asks me if I wanted to upgrade to a Camaro or Mustang. I chose the Camaro.

It was a 6 banger, the visibility was crap, and I totally loved driving it.

As a little background, I grew up around muscle cars. My brother had a 65 GTO 421 SD that would pull the wheels off the ground in 3rd gear - his first car at 16. Between the two of us we've owned everything from 55 Chevy's to GTO Judges to built 340 Demons to 428 CJ Mach 1's. I owned a Super Bee, Road Runner, and countless others. Pulling engines and dropping transmissions was a regular event at our house.

Over the years I sort of lost interest in the cars, and although I was aware that modern cars were being made again, I really didn't spend any time reading about them. That changed after I had a go with the Camaro. I was curious.

I can afford to buy pretty much anything from a Z06 down, and the Vette was really the only thing I ever seriously thought about buying. After driving the Camaro, I really thought I would be in line to buy a ZL1 Camaro, but after watching videos for the past few days, and doing lots of research, and I definitely ready to buy a Challenger Hellcat!

    Here's why.

    1. The Challenger really looks like a 1970's car. It nails the styling. The Camaro looks really good, but it just doesn't capture the essence of the original like the Challenger does.

    2. The interior of the Challenger rocks. I thought the Camaro interior was really poor. Stripped down. I know the 2016 will be better, but the Challenger is in another league.

    3. The Challenger Hellcat is totally over the top, which is EXACTLY the way I like my muscle cars. It's mean. It's fast. It's brute force. And it is also a far superior version of the 71 Challenger, which (with a built 440) was totally insane.

This is definitely the golden age of muscle cars, and I am really surprised they came back this strong. I was so focused on the Z06 that I didn't really notice that the muscle car had come back like this. These are the best muscle cars ever made. I want mine!

I will probably get the 2016, as I am partial to Hemi Orange, and hope that color is offered. I also read that they are going to tweak the suspension a bit, which can't hurt. The only thing that would give me pause would be Dodge announcing a HC Demon or possibly a HC Cuda.

Give me a lighter HC, and I would be all over it. But the Challenger totally rocks!

I can imagine, Dubya. I just hope they get the Orange color option in 2016. I have got to have that color. It's a Challenger!

I have always loved muscle cars. I always dreamed if owning a late 60s or early 70s GTO or Vett or Mach 1 mustang. I then did my homework and started seeing incredible muscle cars a couple years ago. The hellcat just took it above and beyond. A real back seat, cruising, and pure insane muscle. And as you said the perfectly matched throwback good looks. Chrysler got it right. I just wish their business machine was as awesome as their car. Hopeful the quality will hold and this will be a car I hand down.

Yea, I know what you mean about the Hemi Orange. When it came out in 08 I had to have it.

I think you should buy a Vette, cause they are a dime a dozen. That way you will have something to drive while waiting FOREVER to get your real car.

They can sneak up on you when you least expect it. I kept hearing about a SC Challenger three years ago so they took their good ole time. It sounds like you and your brother had some great cars. I was the little brother and grew up around them and just dreamed of the day I could get mine. So I went retro pony all the way which wasn't hard as there are only three available. There's just no cure for this kinda fever.
