When I was a young teenager someone had put sugar in my gas tank of an old truck that I had since then I've always put a lockable gas cap on all my vehicles.

Today I went to the auto parts to buy one and was told it was a dealer item so off to the dealer I go at the dealership the parts guy couldn't find a listing for one so he called Dodge and he was advised that they don't make a lockable gas cap for my 2015 Dodge Challenger Srt Hellcat yet.

I don't know if anyone else had looked into this I did a search on this forum and didn't find anything but I figured I would pass this information on.

    p.s.
I did have one for my 2013 Challenger Srt8.

Sugar doesn't dissolve in gas. It is a false urban legend that it disables vehicles (any more than any other foreign substance anyway). Is it that big an issue for you that feel you require a locking gas cap?

Emissions are part of the problem on new cars ( Gas cap is an emissions system)

there is some product that the dealers put into the cash for clunkers cars to stop the engines from running. not sure what it was.

couple years ago businesses put locking gas caps on the vans and gas trucks cause the gas prices were high, the thieves just poked holes in the fuel tanks to get at the fuel. so in the long run it was cheaper to not get the gas cap lock

I had some problems with an aftermarket one a few years ago made the check engine light come on so it when in the garbage and the oem cap went back on.

Any person putting any foreign object in my gas tank is a big deal especially when we're talking about expensive machines as these.
And yes that's why I went to buy one.

Your right about gas thieves when gas prices were sky rocketing over here we were taking reports left and right about people stealing gas out of parked cars.
You don't have to piss someone off or park in the hood or trailer park for some jerk to come mess with your vehicle.

Angel, just an FYI ... the auto parts guy was incorrect. When I got my 2009 Challenger SRT8, someone came through my neighborhood and had stolen gas out of several cars overnight. After my neighbors told me what had happened to their cars I went out and bought a locking gas cap for the Dodge Challenger from Auto Zone. I took it off of the 2009 when I traded it in and put it on the 2013 Challenger 392, fit perfectly. When I traded the 2013, I tried it on for size on the HC, and it fits fine. The gas cap that fits the other Challenger models is the same as the HellCat because they all have the same dimensions on the gas opening to the tank. Hope this helps.

Maybe Dodge brand it fine with swapping gas caps, but several other brands out there have issues with check engine lights when the fuel caps are switched out.
