I have 9500 miles on the car and it seems to pull well in all gears but when launching in a spirited way the groans a little towards the clutch area. I'm thinking the pressure plate is causing this since the car still pulls. I have now decided before any mechanical or computer upgrades I will need a better clutch to hold the power. The current one doesn't seem to be strong enough to last 50k and that is a serious disappointment.

    9K miles
I'm noticing a brief metallic wrenching noise(like twisting metal?) only in 1st on takeoff when the rpms drop a little too much(below 2K) while giving it more gas. Started around 7.5K. I'm wondering if it is the same thing.

I drove a 392 manual for 50K miles, took it the drag strip often, heavy clutch, and had no issues. The clutch was heavier, had more inertia, so takeoff in 1 st was actually easier - no accelerator needed to roll if I blipped it to 2500 rpms.

Yes, 1st it is taller in the HC than the 392.
Whether or not that is leading to some clutch deterioration - I don't know

Well finally had a chance to go to the dealer to see what the HC mechanic thinks. I have since put 1500 more miles on it. Car still pulls hard but the groaning is more pronounced. I really think its the pressure plate. Lets see if i am right. More to come

I know this, a pressure plate that's bad doesn't continue to hold power over time and can only get worse very quickly.. groaning sounds can come from alot of places and be very deceiving--torque does weird things to the entire power train and rotational vibrations can show up all through the drive train--chatter from clutches usually involves the disc or flywheel--my experience with pressure plates usually involves quick fails or alot of slippage...

Well the dealer has informed me my year has passed. At this point I don't think I want a stock replacement anyway. but I'm so convinced it's the clutch I decided to get the BBG clutch. Toddy was great to deal with and I want piece of mind so when I take it out I'll see for what the deal is with the old one. I'm looking forward to the install. I plan on making a video to chronicle this project. More to come.
