Wow, wonder how much of a beating that dude took for 280 miles of owning one car and deciding a manual in the Hellcat wasn't for him? I'm gonna guess $4-5k

I could easily find that out. I'm going tomorrow - I haven't sat in one and hopefully mine will be delivered in a few weeks, so I would like to get familar. I'll get all the details - so many are desperate so I figured I would share.

I bet he took more of a beat than that!!! The only one that makes out here is the dealer LOL. Buy low and sell high.

I figured if he bought two Hellcats from the same dealer, they wouldn't rape him too bad.

I bet more than that. the guy could have sold it on Ebay and made money. I guess not all hellcat owners are smart.

Op wrote the guy "returned" the M6 and got the A8
So that told me it was same dealer.

But you figure if he paid $3-5k over for the first one, then they took it back for $1k under and selling him the 2nd one at MSRP, he took a $4-5k beating.
Dealer should be able to sell the one with 280 miles on it for close to MSRP still. But who knows.
Maybe he took a $6-8k beating.
But that would be a fool. If you don't think you want a manual to begin with, don't that out after you have signed the papers.

He paid $10k over MSRP - at least that is what I have been told - I am at MSRP since I was first in last May.

Whoa Nelly, $10K over is steep. But I'll bet the dealer worked with him a bit on the 2nd one.
Clearly he didn't pay $10k over for the first, then trade it back in at a few grand under MSRP, then pay MSRP for the 2nd one.
He'd of taken a $12k hit just for a mistake in picking the manual over the auto.
Since the dealer will be able to sell the manual one with 280 miles on it for probably MSRP, or close to it, I'm guessing they did a pretty fair swap with the guy and still made the $4-5k I was guessing.

what do you mean you are at MSRP since you were "first in last May"?
Do you mean you went to the dealer over a year ago to put deposit down?
I hope you have a Hellcat by now right?

I went in last May and locked first spot. Since I wanted B5, M6, Sunroof my first VON went on late availability. So, I then told my dealer to take spot and sell until what I wanted came up. Unfortunately the FCA stories are real - allocations stopped and we weren't sure he would get another allocation. He sold (3) by the way all $10k plus. When the banks opened again on 5/28/15 for M6's we reentered the order and I now have a VIN and I am in D status and I am getting mine at MSRP $63,480, which includes Laguna RA4 Nav optiion - hoping Mid July.

^^Wow that's a long time to wait for MSRP though.
I paid only a couple grand over MSRP, but was able to get one immediately, (after only a week of looking) the day after it arrived at a dealership when the dude that ordered it fell through due to financing.
They wanted $10k over too, but I told them, you want to sell it right here, right now, negotiate down to a reasonable amount.
So they did. I gave them a credit card number to hold it, drove over the next day and drove it home.
So even though I've never paid over MSRP for a car before (actually I've never even paid MSRP before, always under), I've never bought a car that was in such high demand with such low supply before. So paying a couple grand extra to have it immediately with no waiting was worth it to me. Plus I figured if I had to wait for a 2016 model, the MSRP is probably going to go up $4-5k anyway, and dealer's will still want $2-5k over I'm sure.
Too each there own. But the guy who bought the manual and then returned it after only 280 miles, he must be an idiot.
Better to make sure it's what you really want before signing. He clearly didn't think it through. Manual transmissions on cars with this much power are a lot to deal with.
