Jeep Goes Commando in Motor City with Two Mopar-Equipped Renegades

Mopar is once again flexing its muscles at the Detroit auto show, debuting two wildly divergent takes on the new Jeep Renegade, one for the jungle and one for the urban jungle.

Based on the Renegade Trailhawk model, the “Off-Road Mopar-equipped Jeep Renegade”—now there’s a clever name—is painted gloss Commando green with a cool matte-black roof panel that combines with the window pillars to create a targa-like roof graphic. Of course, it’s not a targa, as not only is there a roof, but also a serious roof rack. It also has full matte-black and gray lower body cladding and a set of black wheels with a single element outlined in red. The interior is gussied up with green, gray, and satin-black accents, while the seats are covered in Katzkin leather. And there are stickers, including big, Jerry-can-inspired “X” graphics on the body sides and, somewhat inexplicably, a topographical hood graphic depicting the map of Detroit, where there are still roads. Okay, they’re not very well maintained, but they still don’t require an off-road vehicle to traverse. At least outside of pothole season.

Indeed, that graphic might be more at home on the hood of the “Urban Mopar-equipped Jeep Renegade”, with its striking gloss gray paint with neon-orange accents on the grille, wheels, taillamps, roof rails, and wheels. Built from a Renegade Limited 4×4 model, the Urban also features Katzkin seats and adds more orange interior accents, while a bike rack hangs out on the trailer hitch.

While these aren’t likely to be offered as factory trim levels on the Renegade any time soon, they are designed to showcase Mopar’s vast portfolio of custom pieces that will be available to customers at launch, as well as some “concept” pieces that might be developed in the future.
