M6 second gear

    So I have 3,700 miles on my challenger hellcat so far and the only problem I've been having is my second gear. Sometimes it won't go in at all and sometimes if it does go in when I release my clutch it pops out of the gear. Anyone have an idea of what this could be or should I just take it to the dealer?

    Definitely take it to the dealer. Sounds like something has gone bad in the trans. If it was the clutch, I would assume you would have trouble in more than one gear. Does it do it all the time or infrequently? Hot or cold or doesn't matter?

    Could it possibly be the skip shift is blocking you out? Also when i drag raced with my m6 i had issues with it not wanting to go into 2nd and i think it was just due to it bunching up.

    It happens all the time and it doesn't matter if it's cold or hot. And only 2nd gear

    Sounds like shift lock (certain acceleration profile wants you to shift from 1st to 4th) locking you out of 2nd gear. Read the manual. It's a real PITA; somebody's better idea for saving fuel. I believe there is a light on the dash that indicates the shift lock out. It's been around a long time...was that way in my 2010 Challenger R/T M6.

    You can double clutch it to work around the shift lock out or buy one of the skip-shift by-pass plug ins.

    Ya I've heard about that but why would it pop out of gear after its in?

    I don't think it's the skip shift because when it happens it doesn't want to go in 3rd either and if it does go in 2nd it pops out after I let go of the clutch

    Sounds like bad syncros. Uncommon with this trans but happens. Warranty..

    The skip shift kicks in below 20 mph. Try shifting a few times with speed over 20 mph and see what happens. You can get a fix for the skip shift.

    This used to happen to me on my 392. I felt it sometimes on the HC also being difficult to get into 2nd. The trick I've found that seems to work is to hold the lever to the left a bit hard while pulling down into 2nd.

    Are you getting the dash light indicating that you are in skip shift mode? If you have tried to force it into 2nd gear you might have bent or mis-aligned something within shifter mechanism. It's a mechanical design to keep shifter from entering 2nd gear. If you've jammed/forced it before, you might now be able to get partially into gear but not completely in and thus it pops back out of gear. It's not an old H pattern 4 speed shifter, it's now rod length and rotation that controls the gear selection

    Any problems downshifting into 2nd gear? If it goes into 2nd without problem on the downshift then more than likely the skip-shift mechanism has been balled up. Time to go to the dealer and find the root cause.

    When you get home from the repair, immediately install the skip shift eliminator...one of the best $20 you'll spend. A tuner can also delete the skip-shift but since the PCM is locked, the harness plug is a much cheaper and effective alternative.

    Nope it even happens when I shift from 1st to 2nd almost at redline

    Yes it mostly pops out when I'm down shifting it from 3rd to 2nd
