I've done some searching but rather than go through bunches of pages can someone please give me a quick overview of how the skip shift works? Does it lock you out of 3rd gear below a certain rpm, light throttle, etc.? I don't believe my Shelby had that, or maybe I just didn't notice.
    Thanks

Transmission forces you to go from 1st to 4th below a sped of somewhere around 20mph. If over ~20mph you can go to second or third. I never find myself in the range where it affects me!

Precisely...only a problem if you are in a neighborhood with a strict speed limit, or you are waiting for the oil temperature to come up, first drive of the day.
Once in a while, I've been not "on my game" and the skip shift interferes.

I'll be installing a "skip shift eliminator" next time the car is on a lift for service.

Agreed. I wouldn't be granny shifting a Hellcat anyway. What's the point of having a manual if you don't let 1st gear sing? Thanks!

Yeah if you rev out in first it won't activate. It has a solenoid that locks out second gear when you driving it easy... forcing you to pull it back into 4th rather than 2nd. Kinda stupid... but it was for gas mileage. They make a skip shift eliminator... that plugs into solenoid harness that bypasses this feature. They are fairly cheap.

So, if you hit 4th at low speed does the engine lug? Seems like it wouldn't be good for it.

if it activates when you hit neutral and it shoves the stick over, you can quickly u-turn the shifter and select any gear

No, this car has enough torque that 4th gear has plenty of go. It's just that one expects the torque multiplication of second, and instead is surprised by "flat" acceleration. Not what one needs in a bad*** muscle car!

It won't do that if you're driving aggressive... but agree it's a PITA.

well it doesnt lug but its bogged down and takes a bit to climb out of it... she idles a 8mph in first so u can do the math for hitting 4th at 20mph

OK, found this on my owners DVD (yes I should have looked there first) :-(

    1–4 Skip Shift

There are times when you must shift the transmission directly from first gear to fourth gear instead of from first gear to second gear. This is to help you get the best possible fuel economy from your vehicle. This occurs when the engine coolant (antifreeze) is higher than 106°F (41°C), vehicle speed is greater than 19 mph (30 km/h) but less than 21 mph (34 km/h), and the transmission is in first gear, and the accelerator is at ¼ throttle or less.

After you shift the transmission to fourth gear, you can press the clutch in and shift to another forward gear.

So if I'm reading this correctly, you would have to shift at EXACTLY 20 mph for the feature to activate? Also, it appears that if I'm driving after a cold start, it also will not activate. So, if I wanted to granny it to let the coolant come up to temp, all I have to do is shift at 18 mph or less. Doesn't seem too obtrusive at all.

^^^ this feature will get you killed in my opinion.
Your ganna grab the gears pulling out in traffic and... It ain't ganna happen!
The shift isn't there.. I hated it.
The "skip shift eliminator" or a cpu tune will delete this "big bro" feature...

Yes in that scenario I could see it causing some problems..

Thanks for all the input. I'll probably be getting an M6 real soon, so I want to get as much knowledge as possible.
