Not sure how many of you folks out there in other states have or have even heard of an excise tax? In fact I have heard Massachusetts may be the only one? Well just for the privilege of living in our wonderful state( or Commonwealth to our pols) we get to pay a yearly excise tax on every car, Boat, etc. we own. After buying my Hellcat exactly two months ago and paying over $4000 in sales tax I get the excise tax in the mail today for almost $1300. Wow. They waste no time. The sales tax is like a kick in the nuts and the excise is another to make sure you felt the first. Other than our state Pols that register their cars and boats out of state to avoid this(see John Kerry) you are stuck with it. The higher the car cost the more you pay. it then goes down a bit each year but will take a while for the Hellcat. For anyone thinking of ever moving here don't. I have 10 years left in this pit until I retire. I hope.

You never heard of the state of Taxachuseetts it's what we in Connecticut called it. Not that Connecticut was much better. Almost all States have excise taxes in one form or another. Most of the time there called property taxes like here in SC. Our sales tax on cars is capped at $300. My property or excise tax is about $700. Of course I'm in a mostly republican state and your in mostly a democratic state not that that matters not lol.

I paid about $1600 last year on my '15 SRT in connecticut. Cant even imagine what my new HC will be. Like the taxes in CT arent already ri-effn-diculous. They are driving people out of the state. Ive seen at least 9 families come and go on my street because its just too expensive to live here.

Man I love the South. I wouldn't even be able to afford my Hellcat or my house on my salary up north.

No wonder all of these northerners are packing up and moving to Atlanta.

Love the south too. Cost of living is awesome. But wouldn't make the money I make here. Definitely live in one of the best, worst places in Mericuh.

Ga used to have what they called a yearly Ad Valorem tax attached to tag renewal, but it was deemed an unfair tax about 3 years ago. So now it only costs $20 to renew our tags. You pay your sales tax when you buy the car (6.5%), and then you are done. God Bless Georgia! /salute

So you paid $5,300 in taxes. We don't have any excise tax in Erie County, NY but our sales tax is 8.75% so the sales tax on my $65,870 Hellcat was $5,763.63. The grass always looks greener from the other side of the fence.
