I took the HC to the track for the first time Friday night (has 600 miles on it) and didn't do so well. I wanted to see if those with experience can give me some help/tips/pointers for my next time out.

First, I am having a really hard smoking the tires especially in the water box. I get a good rev, drop the clutch, the wheels spin but then I jump forward. What's the trick/secret?

For the runs, what is the best setting and shift pattern? I tried launch control but was totally unsuccessful (ran a 14 @ 95mph). My best shifting on my own was a 13.2 @ 117mph.

I know the car can do better but I need practice and advice from the more experienced is appreciated.

    Thanks

    I was at Island Dragway.

Yeah, I know I need more runs with the car. Just want to get whatever advice I can before I go back.

I was able to keep it straight but I could it get it down the track as fast as I wanted.

Did you hit track mode and press and hold traction control for 5-10 seconds to fully shut it off. I haven't perfected the launch. But that is a quick fix. Some have tried the launch button with success, not me. Good luck! Have fun.

I was also at the track for the first time on Friday, I do have a A8 Charger but also had a lot of trouble launching with a ton of wheel spin (stock tires) so I'm with you on that. Our best was a 12.3 at 121. Your MPH says 11's if you get your launch down which takes a lot of practice as I have found out. Sorry I don't have any advice as I also have no experience and no M6

What tires are you running? Stock tires or even 20" drag radials wont work well with your car. Buy some 17" wheels and the,28×10 Hoosier slicks. Those are probably the only tires that will work well with the M6 if you are shooting for the, best ET..

I made post about my M6 experience complete with timeslip and video.. having a hard time linking it here...

    Here are some tips:

    1. Leave softly around 2500 rpms. I slip and hen mash half way through first.

    2. Lower your tire pressure. Stock around 18-22 psi.

    3. Pay attention to your shifts. 6250 comes on quick. Start to shift at about 6. You'll hit 6250 by the time you start lol.

    4. You will need 4th :-(

    5. Keep the wheel straight lol.

    6. Practice , practice , practice ....

    7. Don't pay attention to the tree. Leave when your ready. The timer will start when you do.

    8. If you feel wheel hop then ABORT... You will break something if you continue.

    9. Have fun.....

Thanks for the tips. Going to be getting used to for sure.

I know the stock tires will prevent me from running in the 11's but I'm ok with that. Just trying to have fun but get the most out of the car I can.

Would like to get the tires warm in the water box though but I can't figure out how to hold it without jumping forward (wish we had a line lock).

That is not true.... You can absolutely get a mid 11 with the stock ties.

You need a good launch and crisp shifting at redline...

Seat time and practice will get you there. I ran a 12.4 with a horrible DA and bad shifting. Also had a 2.4 60ft...

That run should have been an 11.8.

Rev and dump in the water box.. immediately use your clutch foot to hold the brake while warming the tires. Just like a brake torque with an auto..just push the brake enough to hold the car in one spot.

I am having a hard time getting off the line as well. Only got to make four passes so far and really need more seat time. Don't warm the tires too much. Just get them dry and be on your way.

I agree about the practice for sure.

I'm looking for the best advice for shifting especially what settings to put the car in. (Sport, Track, launch no launch).

One good tip I read was to lower the tire pressure which I didn't do. Some people say avoid the water box with street tires and don't heat em others say it's ok. Either way, I suck in the water box cause I can't hold the car in it so I'm go avoid I think.

I'm having trouble shifting fast enough and missed a couple of gears on a run definitely want to avoid that.

For me, I really want to be respectable when I run. It's a lot of pressure with this car when everyone knows it's got over 700hp.

Guys, I cant stress it enough.... buy some 28" slicks and some 17x9 wheels. Otherwise, your just going to pull your hair out trying to launch this M6.
