    Hi Guys,

I purchased my 2016 B5 just before Christmas and have done nothing but wax and stare at it since I brought it home. Today I was reading more of the manual and found that the car stores it's top speed until you reset the counter. So obviously I went out to the garage to see how fast the car has gone. Does anyone know if any testing is done to these cars before they are brought to the dealer?

Last year someone reported something similar, and it turned out that the top speed gets randomly reset (not to zero) when servicing or something to that affect.

Yes mine said 198mph engines are ready to go, the car requires the breakin or recommends it!! My hellcat had 3 miles on it when I went and picked it up, it takes more then 3 miles to actually get up too 198mph.. So, there is no way someone drove it 198...

Snappycat had over 150. Turns out they revved it on the lift and hit that speed. You can find his thread. He thought the tech took it for a joy ride but learned otherwise.

No one drove your car 198mph. It's a computer thing when the software is installed. This issue was covered many many times over the past year or more. No one drove your car that fast. There is a better chance that the lot jockey drove your car 90mph and did a big smokey burnout while getting coffee. Yes the engine is run on a dyno at the engine plant up to 90% (or greater) of full power for 40 minutes or there about. That too has been well documented. And the car is put on a rolling road at the end of the production line and run up to highway speed for a minute or two. There is nothing to worry about. Your car will be fine. Take it out of the garage, drive it, enjoy it, post pictures of it for all of us to see. Life is good. Be well John Spartan.

I was thinking about this a little more. I first thought that the dealer should reset the top speed setting when they prep the car for delivery. Then when they drive it around the lot you would see maybe 10 or 20 mph as the top speed. That seems reasonable. Then I thought more about it and resetting the top speed makes it look like the dealer is trying to hide something. So leaving it at the computer installation setting of 198 (my car was 191) might not be so bad. But then I thought that dealer could run the car up to 100mph and no one would know about it. So I'm not sure if there is a good answer to what the initial factory setting should be. So again I come to the conclusion of don't worry about it, hang on tight to the steering wheel and have fun. Back to eating my ice cream.

You're right! Then the dealer could drive it to 190 MPH, and the Top Speed of 198 wouldn't change!!! This info (top speed may be absurdly high) should really be in the manual! Now I gotta check mine since I never have yet....not that I'm concerned...I still have a warranty...

I think it depends on if your car was factory tested or not. Did your car have this sticker on the window? image.jpeg

I had a 198mph Top Speed on mine as well with 7 miles, it initially freaks you out and then you realize that with the motor limited to 500hp for the first 500miles, you can't get there from here anyway...

Even if mine said that I knew it could not be true because there's absolutely no where within 2 miles of the dealer to do that from the dealer I bought it from. It is 1 mile off the highway and too many red lights near the dealer to get going that fast.
