    Nissan and Cummins show off new turbine design for diesel Titan
    Cummins and Nissan have developed a new two-stage turbine unit for the turbo-diesel V8 engine headed into the next-generation Titan. The new design helps reduce lag, generate more low-end power, and deliver smoother transitions between low and high rpm. The system uses a Holcet turbo with new Rotary Turbine Control, which shunts exhaust gasses in various modes to optimize emissions or power, depending on need.

    The RTC system has four modes of operation. The first is High-Pressure mode, using both stages and minimizing lag for better response during throttle transitions. A Low Pressure mode operates cuts out the first stage and provides higher power output. A Wastegate mode provides maximum power output, and a Regen mode helps the engine comply with emissions standards.


    The next-generation Nissan Titan will use a 5.0-liter, non-proprietary Cummins V8 with more than 300 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Expect to see that truck in 2015 as a 2016 model.
