    Hey all.

At about 6000 miles my Charger Hellcat was showing a 0% Oil Life indication. Had it changed at the dealer no problem, but just wondering if that is normal.

I should mention that "my" car is actually Motor Trend's long term test car and yes, we're beating on it pretty hard.

I should also mention that I borrowed Roadkill's Charger Hellcat -- General Maintenance -- and it also had 0% Oil Life showing. Of course, those two destroy everything they look at, so that didn't alarm me.

    Thanks in advance,

    -Jonny-

That doesn't surprise me at all. Some companies like GM claim how much data effects the oil life monitor. Some of their cars seem to go forever till it hits zero but all 3 suvs from GM I have had for work just count down to 0 % based on mileage. 5600 miles it always tells me to change it within next 400 miles at 5%. I have put over 150k on each and never had an issue. At 6k miles it's time to change it for sure.

As for the roadkill guys, haha that doesn't surprise me in the least!

When their producer left, they actually found the new producer by looking for people who work with special needs adults. Not joking.

And yes! Welcome to the forum. Great having you!

Would love to hear some personal reviews of hellcat charger vs other high end cars you have driven. You have a wealth of knowledge a lot of us are eager to know. Have you driven new CTSV or M5?

Yes to both AND I have a Black CTS-V sitting out in the driveway at the moment.

As I often describe it -- my job is to drive every single new car currently on sale and express an opinion about it.

The CTS-V is a brute. Different than the Hellcat, for sure. The Caddy is like a guy in a nice suit with neck tattoos. The Hellcat... well, I'd rather have the Hellcat.

It's very possible the oil life meter can be affected by driving habits, I know mine at 5k miles was on-par with about 20-30% left if i recall correctly and i drive it on track often so i can't confirm

Oil life monitor algorithm is completely duty cycle based. The more you beat on it, the shorter the interval.

Do you seriously believe that??? If it was actually duty cycle based and dodge manual says every 6 months at bare minimum why at 6 months would it not tell you to change your oil? They are not near as smart at dictating oil life as any manufacturer wants you to believe. I'm in the medical device field
And we have predictive failures that lead hospitals to believe we can keep them from ever being hard down. It's something but it's a joke... I believe if you drive your car very hard it may swing the reading by a few % but not much more. Their development money is spent in much better and smarter places that will actually get customers to buy their car

I change my oil not only by time or miles but by it's color, smell and feel. If you learn what new oil looks like, smells and feels you might change it sooner then recommended. In your case it probably wasn't reset which tells you something about who serviced the car which is not good in my opinion.

Never went there but maybe, never thought about that. Maybe I'll make a Cesar salad tonight with new and used motor oil and see which is better.

There is a lot of good information in the owner's manual, including this about oil changes:
NOTE: Under no circumstances should oil change intervals
exceed 6,000 miles (10 000 km) or six months,
    whichever occurs first.
